Good Afternoon everyone. I wanted to drop by for a super quick update on Superstorm Sandy. This storm continues to intensify and is one scary storm. To be honest, when I look at everything I’m seeing in the northeast, I get the same sick feeling I got when looking at the radar on March 2nd. I know the heartbreak and devastation that’s about to happen, but there is nothing any of us can do about it.
I have NO changes on the kind of impact this storm is going to have on Kentucky. The models continue to hold steady with what they’ve been showing over the past few days. The cold temps so far today are busting some of the model forecasts and should give pause to those who are taking some of the slightly warmer solutions.
I’m heading into work as today is a WKYT First Alert Severe Weather Day. We will have expanded coverage during all newscasts with crews scattered across the area. We will also give you live updates every hour on WKYT.
I will ge you an updated snowfall map and some more thoughts a little later. Take care.
Really appreciate the updates. And keep up the excellent work. I know you have to get tired at times and I really appreciate your dedication to keeping people informed of what the models are showing. Prayers go out to all in the way of this storm, stay safe.
thanks for the update chris…um…try to lean more toward the gfs snowfall map below…lol…just because it shows love to my back-yard…the nam not so much love….
If Chris does any twitter updates, will someone kindly post to here. Twitter is blocked where I work and you can’t pick up wireless service in this particular area. 🙁
Nothing yet…..
Chris, I am confused as to why your sister station is not forecasting this as well….they are way off base and makes me concerned for their ability to forecast when it counts….I wish you were still here for us! You were always willing to go out on a limb and make the best and most accurate forecast.
well its always best to be OVERPREPARED for any thing dangerous. im not sure this storm in E/ne going to be ARMMAGEDDON as many round country have said. really just because HURRICANE Katrina was a disaster, because of bad levys etc and gov. response doesnt meant ever BIG STORM going be the end of world.
yea it a rough time on coast, going be flooding etc, but is it really the end of the world?
the way we cover storms these days are fun to watch though.
ANYTIME human lives are involved its a big deal!!
Gas prices have probably already gone back up!

I just saw that the pressure dropped to 935mb an hour ago. Wow.
I dont think it is going to make it to 49 at my house today.
18 to 23 foot waves on the Southern End of Lake Mich. because of Sandy. Huge storm to say the least.
Chris might need to extend the snow further west, not that it will accumulate but snow should fly as far back as i65 area!
kentuckyweather: 4″ of snow already across the high ground of Pike County in eastern Kentucky.
Downright amazing how Sandy has split into two centers! Another first for a Cat 1 Hurricane! The dynamics of this storm will be talked about for years to come.
Thanks for the updates thus far but I’d love to know some sort of time frame for the changeover from rain to snow in the Johnson County area.
Nevermind, I just saw your tweet…..thanks 🙂
Got a feeling this is gonna be a long winter if sandy don’t come through as advertised…
Wind has really kicked up here in Louisville the last 10 minutes.
Been suffering from dizziness today, don’t know if that has anything to do with pressure drops, but it has been dropping. Oy vey. Going to have to lay down and relax for a while.
Stay safe guys.
I have a question and it is probably stupid but you always hear about tornados during the landfall of hurricanes. Is it because it is so much cooler that we are not hearing any if those warnings with this hurricane?
There remains a bit of a tornado risk this evening over areas like Connecticut which has somewhat more tropical like conditions in place.
I don’t know about anyone else, but it is appearing to me like the precip shield is further west than forecasted.
Agreed, if only the temperatures were cooler
Could somebody please tell me how fast west the south will fall along northern portions of Tennessee? That would be very much appreciated. I may be in Morgan County tomorrow which is why I ask…
Could someone please tell me what it looks like for the London area?
whats it look like for the williamsburg/whitley county area??
Ocean City, Maryland is under water. My family is giving me updates….they are without power. Its just crazy….
