Good Friday afternoon gang. Your friendly weather dude is dropping by for the usual quick early afternoon update before a bigger update later today. The slushy snowfall is on the way for parts of the state with the greatest concentration of snow pushing farther west. Stop me if you’ve heard that one before. ![]()
Here is a look at the latest snow map…
Areas of western Kentucky northeast along the Ohio River toward the Covington area will see a nice little snowfall out of this. The rest of the state… better luck next time.
Light rain and light snow will break out from south to north tonight and you can track the moisture here…
Clouds are keeping temps in check…
Current Temps
On a side note… check out this how this car ended up after a multiple car pileup in snowy New Hampshire…
After sticking the landing… let’s see how the judges score the performance…
8.9 by the Russian judge… what was she thinking? ![]()
I will have a full update coming later today and we will get into all the potential on the menu for next week. Have a great rest of your afternoon and take care.

Model accuracy at it’s best 🙂
BIG SHOCKER!!! LOL
The Dome flexes its muscle yet again…what a shock…I’m sure next week will find some way of missing us too, proving conclusively that snow HATES CKY…
Sorry about the duplicate comment. Got caught in CB’s changeover.
After reading the comments for next week’s ‘big one’, I’m still noticing ones living by the models one run at a time.
Here, let’s make it worth your while. Why not look at when the models first came on board with this system. Next, compare the consecutive runs. Where do you stand?
Now, compare today’s runs. Are there any consecutive runs of at least 2 positive/negative events. If so, then we got something to talk about.
I’m already taking notes on how many times this system is going to change by next week. Could be another lesson in futility.
Comparing model runs can be big mistake.
Richmond out of luck ……. again.
Why not just wait till an hour or so before the precipitation begins before issuing a forecast? Even one day in advance they seem to be wrong 98% of the time….a week out, just forget it.
Don’t see no trend yet.My only concern is the storm is a little weak and won’t push northward an thus stays a south runner. But hey,20 more model runs to go and counting..
But remember, only for OUR region (for the most part)
NNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
The artic front with widespread 1-3″ fluff first of next week, and then the major storm will be a tennessee and northern MS,AL and GA heavy snow thumping! the massive artic air will suppress the storm too far south. our only chance is that the storm really gets wound up and powerful, then it can maybe get north enough to include KY..
The Big One,
So you do see a trend?
I think I’ll take the ground hog out to lunch…
So we lose this one west. Seems like we’re always begging them to come west.
Bubba G is on sabbatical but I know he wants to say something. ;)p
I always love it when we go from something to nothing. It’s always from 2-5 to 1-2 or from 1-3 to 1 or less. It sucks.
From now on the forcasters should always just say from 0-whatever number we may possibly get if hell freezes over.
Even if the forecast looks 99.9% like we’ll get 20 inches, if you’re a met in Central Kentucky you should stick with “well there’s a 100% chance that we’ll get somewhere between 0-20 inches.
Sigh.
I do, but will not 🙂
And I quote,”better luck next time.” That is ALWAYS the story here in Central Ky. I am going to say it here for the record. There WILL NOT be a major snow event for Central Kentucky this month. By major I mean 5+ inches. I will also go on the record saying that most of Kentucky will not see an inch of snow out of tonight’s system. The DOME laughs in the face of any and all models….
This may be the one….
TO PULL ME TO THE DARK SIDE!!!
Well said Rachel… The Dome forecasts the weather in these parts and the DOME always says: NOT HERE.
This storm is a over achiever in Ark-OKL area, 4-6 inches in some places! Western part of Central KY could get more that is currently expected :)!
If there was a “like” button I would have clicked on it. Thumbs up to both of these posts.
Don’t take my word for it.Im just trying to learn as i go along. There is so much more to giving an educated guess than by just looking at the models.Too many things come into play when it comes to the weather. As far as the models showing a trend,Its just to early to get excited about what the models are saying.
…better luck next time. That is the only accurate forecast for Central Kentucky. There will not be a major snow event this month(I hope I am wrong). The Dome will just not allow it.
We pretty much already knew this storm wouldn’t do much around Lexington. Temp. profiles once again killed it.
I’m willing to bet the storm late next week becomes a non-issue for us too. Looks like another Southern Cruiser to me. Look out Georgia.
check chris’s tweet on the ecmwf! not much different from 24 hrs ago. temps in the 20’s make .75 qpf really turn into one bigtime snowfall.
word of the day potential….meaning it never happens in lex richmond area….so hey snow…potential this over here
The Dome will chew that forecast up and spit it out as a cold rain….
The dome laughs at such speculation from the euro. And thinks quietly to its self, ” This to shall not come to pass, as I will show my power once more, and the people will once again be reminded, that the dome is in control”.
I am a cyclist in Jessamine County, KY and use your trusty reports to plan my training. Thanks for everything! Take that, Bill Meck.
Pretty funny that people complain how central KY is always missed, meanwhile Lexington stands at 15 inches above normal on snow for the season so far.
me toooo! Hysterical!
That with the greatest snow depth being 4″ on one or two days. The complaint is that all of our snows, while giving us above average seasonal snowfall, have been nickle and dime snows, while places far to our south such as Tulsa, OK, started the day with over a foot on the ground and are getting another 4-6″ on top of that today…
Some may figure “well, they wanted snow and now they want more, so it serves them right that now they aren’t getting any at all” to which I say: let western Kentucky have their 1-3 inch snow. I don’t care. 😛
Chris, your update stinks. I’ve given up on more than an inch or two snows (“ankle biters” as Bubba G calls them) but dang I hate cold rain. And now that looks like what I’m gonna get.
Where is rolocoaster when we need him?
Next weeks storm a bust. Go with the trends it is not our year.
Well said.
That’s just the way it is. I am sure back in 1998, for example, when central KY was getting buried for 3 days in early February, some weather nerd in Tulsa was complaining how Tulsa’s biggest snow has only been 3 inches.
My favorite weatherman line is this. Expect the heaviest snow to occur either north, south, east, or west of Louisville. No matter the storm, that’s the line we get. Not saying they’re wrong, just what they always say.
As for the person who says the dome is no in effect does not live in Louisville. All around us, the snow has fallen, yet we struggle to pass the three inch mark every time. Comparing Lexington and east to the rest of the state is unfair because of the elevation.
LOL…here is a forecast for parts of OK/ARKANSAS border…
This Afternoon: Snow. High near 23. West southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible
………….
Must be nice!!!!!!!!! and the video coming out of Dallas Tx..wow…looks like Boston…
I thought those people upstate could drive in the snow…. At least that is what they always say when they make comments on the blogs and poke fun at us when we get a few inches of snow and school gets canceled…. Hmmm
Northern&Central ky can have the snow .
I’m sick of it here in Eastern ky school already set to be out May 30th.
Hmmm…interesting Part of the Long Range DIscussion from NWS in JKL….
THE 12Z GFS LOOKS OUT OF SYNC WITH THE MAJORITY OF GUIDANCE FROM
TUESDAY ONWARD…SO HAVE LEANED MORE TOWARD THE ECMWF SOLUTION. A
SOUTHERN STREAM SYSTEM WILL BE ORGANIZING OVER THE SOUTHWEST U.S. BY
WEDNESDAY MORNING…WITH AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE TRACKING ALONG THE
GULF COAST AND EVENTUALLY WINDS UP OFF THE MID-ATLANTIC COAST BY
EARLY FRIDAY MORNING. THIS TRACK WILL SLING PLENTY OF MOISTURE
TOWARDS US WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY…WHICH WILL FALL AS ALL
SNOW. AS MENTIONED IN PREVIOUS DISCUSSIONS…THIS SYSTEM IS STILL
VERY FAR OUT…AND POSITION AND TRACK WILL LIKELY VARY QUITE OVER THE
NEXT FEW DAYS. FOR NOW…HAVE RAMPED UP POPS TO 40 PERCENT FROM
WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY…WITH A FEW SNOW SHOWERS LIKELY
LINGERING INTO THURSDAY NIGHT…BEFORE ENDING ON FRIDAY.
I purdic we gets frum 0 to 30 enchis of sno frum now til neext wek. I alsow purdic tempeerchars weell be sumware tween -20 and 80. My furkasts nevar lose.
Getting it’s rain on here in Middlesboro…temp is at 41. I will be really surprised to see any snow out of this tonight/tomorrow.
I’m not overly concerned about this little bit coming through tonight and tomorrow. I say let this miss us so maybe we can get our “Big One” next week.
In reality, we are due a Big snow here in SE Kentucky. The last “Major” event we had was almost 18 years ago in 93.
I just hope this one isn’t a flop like the last one. If this one misses us, we can probably forget about any major snows the rest of the winter.
I’ll back Rolo 100% on his forecast!!!
Exception being this area is now approaching FOURTEEN years with not one event 8″ or more 😉 You will not find a gap as long for central KY.
Please note: I said nothing about any current or future weather event, so still keeping my Bubba-free promise 🙂
Exactly!! Nothing to see here…just a dusting!
Can someone give me the link to the 12z EMCWF model run?
I agree with the others here. Honestly, though, I’d rather see NOTHING than a possible “up” to an inch that causes us to miss a day of school. UGH!
Finally have an update on my thoughts for tonight and for next week over on my blog if anyone is interested.
i hope come tuesday evening…the forecast is WINTER STORM WARNING with heavy snow w/thunderstorms, accumulations 18-27″ blowing/drifting snow up to 12’…with blizzard conditions for more than 36 hrs..!!!!
………
LOL….B)….thats for all you snowlova’s out there!!!!!!!!…where you at rolo roker????….lol…lol
http://weather.unisys.com/ecmwf/ecmwf.php?inv=0&plot=4p®ion=a
Hope that’s what you’re looking for.
Yor walking a fine line there.
That’s not true Rolo dialect. An impostor.
I ALMOST don’t care anymore. If patterns rule the forecast I can’t expect more than a couple of inches in Frankfort per any one storm. It’s the pattern.
A while back…..Chris posted some INFO on storm tracks that give our area snow from MJ and the NWS……..
I think there were five different tracks….
Those all must be FREAK storm tracks that rarely happen.
FAKE!!!!!!!!!!….its a rolo fake…thats not typical rolo language…lol..
I’m on the edge of not caring anymore as well.
Give me a big snow or give me spring. Either want to be out sledding with the kids or or bike riding with the kids. OK Mother Nature, which is it gonna be?
5 more days to my dance..i want so bad to ask this awesme girl out.i think she will..ive heard she may go ..maybe..potential…but when the day cmes..no way.not even going to get a glance..so much for the BIG DREAM…by the way her name is snowy
I don’t know why everyone is shocked when it doesn’t snow here. It is not supposed to snow here that often. A big snow every 10 or so years. Could be this year could be 2015 or could be 2020. Good luck but don’t expect it everytime a model shows something a week out.
So basically they’re saying this will be an eastern KY event. The track they mention has been the dominant track all year and it hasn’t produced anything more than small accumulations in north/central KY.
Great…..looking forward to a ‘beast’ and it looks like it will be going east. Imagine that.
The last snow fall map Chris moved it further Nwest than the NWS is calling! He has Frankfort a inch or less, they still have an advisory level snowfall of 1to2 in. I believe the upper level storm will make it’s own cold air for this to happen! Rain to mix should be further south! A system like this in DEC gave us our largest snow of 4in. They where then calling for a 1 in snow????
Hey now, that is my name on here! LOL
My prediction is no snow.
im here TIMMY!
im laying in the weeds waiting on that WINTER STORM WARNING for knox, lee, owsley,CLAY,Jackson counties until thursday morning.
I missed something….why is Bubba being silent?
LOL!! Hilarious. But true. Hmmmm
LOL….we can’t even get a 1-3in snow in CKY. As Homer Simpson said in their movie:
“DDDDDDDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMEEEEEEEE”
I friggin hate all this near miss stuff. Give me summer…
Oh yeah, mother nature: you suck!
On Sabatical. The Force and the Dome have reached a boiling point. Give him time to collect himself. 🙂
We really aren’t in the “south”, so us not getting a big snow for so long is odd.
Jake
NORTH WEST AGAIN…SOUTHERN IN WAS NOT SUPPOSE TO GET BU A DUSTSING TO AND INCH NOW THE GET THE 2-3 AND LOU. AREA GETS 1-2 WITH A DUSTING FURTHER SOUTH EAST. NORTH WEST AGAIN….AND AGAIN…AND AGAIN…THINK SNOW THINK SNOW
i am so tired of these 5 days out big snows, and them bamb it’s gone. i don’t care anymore, if it does or if it don’t.
Rather than shoot hopes down, I figured it best to not comment about next week and let folks hope for the best, considering this may be our best/last shot this winter for a big snow.
Besides, some folks have taken my normal tone and kicked it into overdrive 😉 In all of our defense, none of the events so far have panned out, so the tone correlated with the results.
Get er’ done, Rolo!
hurry up spring !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So is this cold blast going to be the last one for a while? Will the rest of winter be warmer?
Anyone else think the thing in South-Central Ohio kinda looks like a bird sticking its tongue out? lol
look at the storm in chicago for an idea of what well have next weke snow dome will disintgrate and make al gore poop his environmentlisat pants huge devastating storm on the way for wed into thurs then one more clipper and cold rain rest of winter enjoy!!!
I know how to fix our snow woes in Kentucky. Breaking News… The Superbowl has been moved to Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. ** wink **
Heat advisories will be up soon for next week!!
I hope you have something there TIMMY. I personally could use a snow day on Thursday (but it has to hit Pulaski Co. harder than the rest (including Laurel) for my hopes to come true…
What are you afraid of? Dude, we know you’re not Rolo. Did your father not love you enough? Are you longing for the love that your mother and father never showed you? You’ll be OK, according to Colin Cowherd.
LOL! May 30th… already??? That’s it! I’m in Lexington and people are throwing a hissy because Fayette County’s snow days have pushed them to June 3rd already (and it looks like there’s a good chance it will be later than that).
Honestly… I went to private school my whole life (in other words – we NEVER got snow days) and we also never got out earlier than the end of May/beginning of June.
Frankly I would LOVE some snow days at my teaching job… we don’t close for anything though.
