Good Wednesday evening everyone. The wicked winds of today are now a thing of the past as the cold air and snow showers made a return visit to the state. As we look into the future… we see another very wintry period taking shape that should carry us into the middle of the month.

The action will kick off with a fast moving low pressure riding northeastward out of the Gulf of Mexico Friday and Saturday. There are still some question marks with this system as we have a kicker diving in from the northwest that will try its best to push the low a bit farther east and keep it from really amplifying very much. Still… clouds should increase quickly on Friday and some rain and snow will break out from south to north by late afternoon into the evening with light snow taking over Friday night into Saturday morning.

Determining who has the best chance to pick up a few inches of snow will be all about how far west the quick hitting precip shield can get.

The NAM is pretty aggressive with the precip…

Some of the other models are not as aggressive and are a bit farther east with this storm…

I will put out a first call map out later tonight for this likely light snowfall.

This will should kick off another very wintry period for the next few weeks. Super Bowl Sunday will see a weak disturbance dropping in from the northwest with some light snow or flurries before some bigger action early next week.

This will be on the leading edge of a huge shot of arctic air diving into much of the central and eastern half of the country. There is likely to be a storm along the front as it slides in here by Tuesday and Wednesday and this a great shot at being a decent snow maker for our part of the world.

Reenforcing shots of arctic air would then filter end for the second half of next week and will threaten to bring us the coldest air of the winter.

The usual full update comes your way late tonight so check back. Have a great evening and take care.
