Good Saturday, folks. We have another active setup ahead later today through Sunday morning as rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms move across Kentucky. This is ahead of another potent cold front sweeping into the region. The front arriving around here by the middle of the week looks to bring a blast of chill with it to kick off the month of April.
Our day is a pretty good one for many with partly sunny skies and temps deep into the 70s. Southern and southeastern Kentucky can get in on a few showers and thunderstorms from time to time from mid-morning into the afternoon.
Low pressure rolls from the plains into the Great Lakes tonight, dragging a cold front across Kentucky. Rounds of strong to severe storms develop along and ahead of this front. A few thoughts:
- Storm clusters across the south and southeast can be strong and put down torrential rainfall at times today.
- The prime time for severe weather is from late evening in the west to mid Sunday morning in the far southeast.
- Damaging winds and large hail are the primary players.
- Just like Thursday, a few tornadoes will certainly be possible as the storms spin through here.
- Even without storms, winds will be very gusty and may top 40mph at times.
- Flash flooding issues will also be possible during this time, especially across the south and southeast.
Here’s the current Severe Weather Outlook for today from the Storm Prediction Center…
The Severe Weather Outlook for Sunday sees the focus push farther east…
Cooler winds blow behind this for Sunday afternoon with temps reaching the 30s by Monday morning.
After a quick rise in temps early in the week, March looks to go out on a wild note with a powerful cold front crossing the state. Rain and gusty winds will accompany a big temp drop that can even give us the chance for some snow to end the month and begin April on Thursday…
The pattern turns dry and chilly by Friday, but temps moderate quickly by next weekend.
I will have another update later today, so check back. Until then, here is the Saturday edition of your storm tracking tools…
Possible Watch Areas
Make it a great day and take care.
Thanks Chris for all your updates on this active Severe Weather here lately.
Yesterday evening I learned that a Tornado touched down late Thursday near my area just to the North causing moderate damage. I’m really worried about what may happen tonight.
Really enjoy your interactive Radar. Wonderful technology !
Forecasters in my area are calling for a low temperature of 27 degrees F for Friday morning. If Snow is included I will enjoy that too, but would want a Sunny, quiet Easter Sunday.
Some plant life may be damage from the predicted freeze, but hoping this won’t happen.
