Good afternoon, folks. Old Man Winter continues to load up for one more punch of some ugly weather over the next few days. We are set to go from a gorgeous spring day to light snow in a matter of hours Tuesday and Tuesday night. #TeamSpring ain’t down with this.
Let’s recap:
- Highs hit the 70 degree mark for some Tuesday.
- As a cold front moves in, a wave of low pressure develops along it and pulls in even colder air.
- Temps drop quickly into the 30s behind the front with rain changing to a period of light snow and flurries.
- Light accumulations will be possible on grassy and elevated surfaces, but this melts pretty fast. The best chance is across western and central parts of the state, especially in the northern areas.
- Anything more than a Trace will make this one of the latest recorded snowfalls on record for our region.
- Wind chills by Wednesday morning hit the 20-25 degree range.
- A leftover rain or snow shower will be possible in the east Wednesday as temps recover only into the 40s.
The latest computer model forecasts show the potential for some very light accumulations…
NAM
GFS
EURO
CANADIAN
The fact we are talking about this is rather disgusting, but it is what it is.
Once we get through all this, next week looks MUCH better and I continue to see temps making a run at 80.
Enjoy the rest of your day and take care.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Looks like the target area for the heaviest snowfall will be well south of the Chicago area into downstate Illinois and also Northern Indiana. The Euro and the Canadian look like the most accurate models for predicted snowfall with the more conservative amounts than the NAM and GFS.
The official NWS forecast for the Chicago area calls for less than a half-inch Tuesday afternoon and less than a half-inch Tuesday evening. O’Hare Airport may not get the 1.2 inches it needs to break 50″ for the season.
It’s a very chilly Spring afternoon here, with on and off light rain and a temp in the low 40s.
A Freeze Watch is already in effect for virtually all of IL for Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.
