Good Saturday, everyone. We have a tropical and rather steamy day taking shape as our storm chances drop. This drop in storm chances doesn’t mean we get through the next few days totally storm free, but it’s the other drop that will get most of your attention. A blast of cool and dry air is on the way for the week ahead.
Humidity levels are still way up there today as high temps run in the normal range. Most areas are in the middle 80s with a mix of sun and clouds. There’s still the risk for a storm or two going up, especially later in the evening. That’s when we see a few storms dropping in from the north and northwest. Here are your radars…
The first of two cold fronts arrives on the scene Sunday with an increase in showers and storms. A second front arrives Tuesday with a storm or two and MUCH cooler air coming in behind it…
How about a few days of low humidity, dry weather with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s? Check out the lows on the GFS…

Another deep trough looks to dive in next weekend and may bring a blast of similar air for early next week. The complicating factor will be the increasing potential for a tropical storm or hurricane developing in the Gulf of Mexico.
Here’s the EURO…
The GFS
And the Canadian
As you can see, the pattern suggests if that system does develop, it could would have a chance to impact our weather as early as next weekend.
Enjoy your Sunday and take care.
Next week looks to be better than this past week.
The GFS has the low in the gulf almost stationary.
It’s definitely not in a hurry to move upon land.
I better mow my yard today.
Here in the SW Suburbs of Chicago, we actually heard thunder from thunderstorms that developed to our west and northwest, but nary a drop of rain fell. A few areas in the far Western Suburbs got hit pretty hard, as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for DeKalb County (about 60 miles west of Chicago) around 3:30 PM.
The 92-degree high at O’Hare Airport was just five degrees shy of the all-time record high for the date.
Strong thunderstorms have developed in the NW Suburbs of Chicago this afternoon with the hot, humid, unstable air. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Cook County for the first time this year, as those storms are heading straight for Chicago.
Temps have already exceeded 90 degrees over the Chicago Metro area, with dew points in the low 70s.
Numerous Severe T-Storm Warnings have been issued for the Chicago Metro Area this afternoon, including here in the SW Suburbs, where the rain is coming down in buckets! And gosh, do we ever need the rain.
On a side note, the SPC really blew it by not issuing a Severe T-Storm Watch for NE IL. The hot, humid, unstable air really made it a ripe environment for thunderstorm development.
