Good Friday, folks. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before… It’s another day with rounds of showers and storms targeting the Bluegrass state. Just like in recent days, a few of the storms may put down torrential rains, causing local high water issues. That said, big changes are in store for the weekend into next week.
Today’s forecast is for more showers and storms as our low presses to our east. The storms will be coming at us from a different direction behind the low, so watch some action coming in from the north and even northeast. Just like in recent days, storms will pack a heavy rain punch and may cause additional high water issues for some. Here are your radars…
Saturday looks like a much better day as temps climb deep into the 80s with much more dry weather than what we’ve seen this week. There will still be the risk for a storm or two going up and this storm risk looks to climb on Sunday as a cold front moves in. This is the first of two fronts to impact our weather with the next arriving on the scene by Tuesday. This one has a big time push of pleasant air behind it and there could be another push following that up next weekend. The models are showing all of this well…

That second push is showing up stronger and stronger on the models. The first push is impressive with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s for the middle of next week. Lows can really bottom out with the GFS showing the potential for some record lows…

Summer may show up at some point… Right?
Have a fantastic Friday and take care.
I am not gripping about the temps..
Well, summer has definitely shown up in the Chicago area, as June has gotten off to one of its warmest and driest starts in Chicago weather history! For the first ten days of the month, the average temperature at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport was 75.8 degrees, a stunning 8.3 degrees above normal. Temperatures have reached at least 90 degrees on four days, with high temps between 87 and 92 degrees for seven of the past eight days.
Very little if any rain has fallen throughout the Chicago Metro Area so far this month, with a scant 0.01 inches at O’Hare Airport and 0.03 inches at the NWS Forecast Office in the SW Suburbs. All of Northern IL continues to experience drought conditions, with severe drought conditions in far NE IL.
Temps are predicted to hit the upper 80’s to low 90’s here for the next four days before the cooler pattern emerges.
Mike, I found an article on ENSO. If the prediction holds the upper Mid West will have another cold Snowy Winter 2021-22.
Kentucky less likely as La Nina is expected to phase from neutral (which we have at the present) to a full blown La Nina during the Winter months.
In the p*a*s*s it’s weak El Nino’s phases that bring cold Snowy Winters to Kentucky. At this time it’s just a prediction by NOAA.

when you see those little blips of yellow and slightly red on radar, those are extremely heavy rains. The past 2 or 3 days here in my part of Lexington I’m guessing we’ve had at least 3 inches of rain.
We are off to a great growing season here in central Kentucky. Not too hot, not too dry, just right for a typical start to Summer.
After this month ends I will be ready for Autumn weather. Sunny warm days and cool nights.
