Good Friday to one and all. A cold front continues to sink to our south today and is allowing much better air to blow in from the north. This kicks off an extended stretch of much cooler than normal temps that kicks into high gear as we start the month of August.
Showers and storms dumped torrential rains in many areas overnight, leading to flash flooding. Some flooding may still be around early this morning as the showers and storms slowly move south…
Cooler and drier air sinks southward as the day wears on. This sets the stage for a cool night ahead with some areas dropping into the upper 50s across central and eastern Kentucky.
Another system zips through here over the weekend and will bring some showers and storms to parts of the state later Saturday into early Sunday. Here’s the future radar from the Hi Res NAM through Sunday morning…
That’s a similar look to what the EURO has been suggesting…
This continues to be part of a deep trough digging into the eastern half of the country. It will split and leave a upper level low near us into the middle of next week. That could mean some additional showers building in around this, so we do need to watch that.
The EURO shows all this well and has another deep trough diving into the country by the second week of August…
The Canadian is in a similar mindset..
The GFS looks like it’s suffering from what the GFS always suffers from with troughs in the east… It’s way too progressive. Know your model, folks. 😎
Have a fantastic Friday and take care.

Very nice round of storms plowed on through. The amount of lightning was crazy.
Early this morning we had an intense thunderstorm with numerous lighting strikes knocking out the electrical power for many. I recorded exactly one inch of rain in my backyard which was needed.
Hoping for the lower dew points next week.
Sprinkles was all that I received.
Still a good chance of storms and rain (60%) in Louisville Saturday night and part of Sunday. Then the pleasant weather starts for next week.
