Good Wednesday, folks. We have a cold front dropping into the region today and this is touching off rounds of showers and storms. Some of the storms may be strong or locally severe as the boundary slides in here. What follows this will be a rather tropical setup with humid air and more storms firing up.

Today starts with a few clusters of showers and storms firing up, but the main threat for storms comes later today into the evening. That’s when the cold front enters the picture with a line of storms that may have some damaging winds and hail. The Storm Prediction Center has us in a low-end risk for severe storms…

Today’s storms may also pack quite a bit of rain and this may cause local high water issues to develop.

The rest of the week will likely feature a scattering of showers and storms across the region and you can see this on the NAM from Thursday afternoon through Friday night…

This similar setup continues into the weekend and early next week as temps climb back to above normal readings.

The pattern continues to argue for a big amplification across the plains states early in the week. This likely rolls eastward as either a deep trough or a deep cutoff system. The latest EURO is more along the deep trough idea…

We still have a while to figure out how all that works out, but I suspect the tropics continue to play a big part in the overall pattern evolution. In addition to what’s left of Nicholas, we continue to watch the system off the east coast and one out in the Atlantic…

I leave you with your storm tracking toys…
