Good afternoon, folks. Rounds of showers and storms continue to rumble across the region and we are on guard for the potential for strong to severe storms to go up through the evening. This is along and ahead of a powerful cold front moving across the region.
The Storm Prediction Center keeps much of the region in a Slight Risk for severe storms through the evening hours…
The main threat is from damaging winds, but their is enough shear available to get a few storms spinning. That means a low-end risk for a quick tornado spin up or two and we will certainly be watching for that.
The timing on these storms means some high school football games are going to have some issues.
Here’s what happens behind the front:
- Temps drop quickly and wind up in the middle 40s by Saturday morning in the west and middle 50s east.
- Morning showers in the east move away with partly cloudy skies taking over.
- Saturday afternoon is windy and very chilly with upper 50s and low 60s across the region.
- Sunday morning lows are in the 35-40 degree range with a kiss of frost in the sheltered valleys. Winds should stay up enough to preclude widespread frost.
- The Sunday-Wednesday period is falltastic with highs in the 60s and lows 40-45.
- The next system to impact our region arrives with some showers on Thursday and kicks off a setup that continues to skew colder through the end of the month.
I will be tracking storms on WKYT-TV all evening, so y’all can check me out there. Of course, I have KWC all set for your one stop shop to track today’s storms…
