Good afternoon, folks. We continue to track a cold front across Kentucky and this is bringing a low-end risk for strong to severe storms in the east. The bigger story is the very chilly air coming in behind this for the start of the weekend. Once into next week, a major fall storm system is likely to impact our region.
The broken line of showers and storms out there today is increasing as it gets into eastern Kentucky. This is where these storms may get strong enough for some high winds to show up. Here’s the current Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
Temps come way down behind the front as low clouds sweep back in from the northwest. Many areas fall into the 40s tonight and will see high temps really struggle on Friday. A warm front starts to lift to the north on Saturday and this will mean quite the temp gradient setting up across Kentucky. Areas of northern and eastern Kentucky may stay in the 50s again while the west makes a run at 70. Here’s the temp animation from 8am-8pm Saturday…
Showers and a few thunderstorms then increase Saturday night into Sunday as low pressure develops and works toward the region. That forces that warm front to lift northward, bringing a surge of warmer air with it.
By Monday, the low is essentially rolling across the Ohio Valley with more in the way of showers and storms with chillier air behind it…
