Good Saturday morning, folks. I don’t really know where to start with this post and my heart really isn’t in it after the deadly tornadoes of last night and early this morning. This goes down as one of the worst tornado outbreaks on record for Kentucky.
As of this writing, more than 50 people are dead and that number is surely to rise. Mayfield and Bowling Green are among the hardest hit areas. All I can say is our prayers go out to all those families who are suffering after losing loved ones.
The cold front moving through the state this morning is wiping out the severe weather threat and ushering in colder and calmer air. Here are the radars to track the last of the rain and storms out of Kentucky…
Calm weather moves in behind all this and sets the stage for a nice run of weather through the middle of the week. From there, the pattern slowly takes on much more of a winter look from next weekend into Christmas week.

The GFS through Christmas…
I will have a more in depth post later today.
Have a good one and take care.
Watching the videos of the damage in Mayfield. This is being compared to the Moore, OK tornado from a handful of years ago. Just gutting. Prayers for those suffering and who have lost in that part of the Commonwealth.
I was just 10 years old when the 1974 outbreak occurred. Last night made me feel the same anxiety, fear and wonderment of how nature can can produce such major events. Chris, kudos to you and Jim for the professional, informational, and informative coverage of last nights horrible event. The attention to detail and your explanations of how the severe weather components developed in a calm reassuring manner. And during in all of this you took the time to talk to the kids out there that were frightened in a calm manner explaining what they needed to do to be safe and that it would all right. I dont post much on here but I just wanted to let you know that I believe you saved lives and As a resident of Fayette county, feel lucky having you here watching our backs. God Bless.
Thank you Chris and your team for keeping us updated during the long night of severe weather. I hope you know how much you are appreciated.
I hope our W..Ky readers on this web site are ok.
I know Taylor county was hit hard. I hope Schroeder is doing ok.
Prayers to all that’s been impact by the unimaginable. My area here in western ky was spare from the deadly storms by 30 miless
Obviously, our hearts go out to all those affected by the tornado devastation and deaths that occurred in Kentucky and elsewhere.
Here in the Chicago area, there was scattered wind damage and even a brief tornado in NW Indiana late last night, but nothing approaching the devastation seen in Kentucky.
