Good evening everyone. The snow is still going strong across parts of central and eastern Kentucky as I type and I am very pleased with how things have turned out. Roads are snow covered across much of the state and now we await the arctic air that spills in tonight.
Let’s hear from your part of the world… give us some snowfall reports from your hometown. If you have some cool pics or snow video… shoot it to me and I will try to get it online.
Here are some tracking tools to see the snows slowly pull away and the arctic air to surge in…
Current Temps
Wind Chill
On tonight’s late night post…
– A look at the bitter cold for the next few days.
– A shot of light snow and flurries for the weekend.
– The potential for a big eastern U.S. winter storm early next week that has had my interest for a few days now. I like the looks of this. ![]()
– Wow! That’s my impression of the pattern ahead.
Have a great evening and be sure to post your snowfall for us. Be safe and take care.

About 2″ in my area of Pulaski County. Roads are a mess.
dry slot killed the snow for my back yard…just as it moved in dry slot developed over knox/whitley area’s
..
maybe 1″ on grassy surfaces…:(
NEXT !!!…lol…
moderation!
1″ on grassy surfaces
Spotter reports of 3-4 inches across Boyle County. Looking out my door I agree.
Below is very short video of snowfall near Danville between 3:30-6pm.

about 1″ on grassy surfaces…
Hey Rolo, with all this snow I got something that will warm you up tomorrow I hope. Weaver horse at gulf tomorrow in 8 th or 9th race. Watch Beamer in the next. Could be a good one. Also take your boy leparoux on sat in the maiden race on turf. # 1 hoss!! That way you will have enough money to get one of those new heaters you’ve been needing!! Lol. Really enjoying the snow here in central ky!!
Not much snow here just a coating and not much really on the roads
Approaching 4″ in north Richmond. Light snow ATM.
We got a solid 3 inches here in Lincoln county. The snow is winding down here to.
An indisputable 24″ in my imagination.
Thanks Chris! You’ve been really busy today. Appreciate your hard work on this blog. Just came back in from giving the shovel a workout from about 3″ of snow in Lexington. Sounds like more to come in the next few weeks.
4″ in Rineyville (Hardin,co) Now lets move on to the next storm 🙂
Also ment to say the snow has just about ended here.
1.6 inches in South Nicholasville
2 inches here on Rt 1750, East Point.
Still snowing, roads covered and
it looks slick!
Between 2.5 to 3 inches in Winchester. Lame!!!
2.5″ on Lindsey Wilson College’s campus in Adair County. Still barely spitting snow at 8:30 central.
Measured in a bunch of spots. A solid 4 inches here in Lancaster. More than expected.
Closing in on 3″ here in Gallia County Ohio
it snowed 5 half hours…we did get three inches..but that waz alot of talk and hype for 5 half bours of snow…
We ended up with 3″ at my house in Shelbyville. We’re now under a Winter Weather Advisory until 9 AM.
Here in Madison, IN snow began at 5am and snowed all day till 6pm. We got 5 to 6 inches! 🙂
And thats also a lot of snow in 5 hours for this area. Now if we lived in Colorado itd be the usual. It also had to do with timing, it’s a lot different when it snows during the day rather at night. It affects a lot more people.
Another shovel-worthy snow event come & gone. Nice forecasting again, Mr. Bailey.
Back in December, the thought from most seemed to be that we’d get the worst of winter out of the way early, & then there would be a turn to mild.
Seems the rest of January is loaded with snow and cold…on into February. I know most long-range forecasting is sketchy, but I’m surprised by this…Could one of the mets on here give a theory as to why the switch to milder weather hasn’t come like they thought it would back in the Fall?
Exactly 4.50″ in NW Lexington, Marehaven Subdivision (Leestown & Alexandria Roads)
Partly Cloudy.
4 inches here in southern Georgetown
Chris, I’ve been keeping up with the blog since the big Ice-Storm a couple of years ago. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the time and effort that you put into the blog! I live in Northern Hart Co, on I-65, roughly half-way between Louisville and Bowling Green, where we have a solid 4″ of fairly dry snow. It came so fast that the road crews never had a chance, but are giving it their best!! Thanks again and please keep up the great work.
Right at 3 inches at my house in east Winchester.
Between 2-3 inches here in Morehead. MSU wouldn’t issue a delay if 10 people were killed on the way to class but UK and EKU issued their delays 4 or 5 hours ago. Sometimes I really hate this university! I don’t really feel like getting up at 6:30am to scrape my truck off and drive on snow-covered roads.
Berea, KY – About 4 inches. Snow seems to be fading. Roads are pretty bad right now.
Solid 2″ snowfall in downtown Whirlin’ Sterlin’ (Mt. Sterling)
Chris, thanks for the blog. Not only for the great weather information, but because my struggling sophomores are reading better by using the blog as their daily read aloud assignment.
Here in Lawrenceburg…3.5″-4″…drive in from Frankfort around 5:00 was starting to get interesting…everything still and quit now…great job Mr. Bailey!!! Ready for the next one!!!
*quiet…also, son in Bowling Green says about 1.5″ of snow down there as well….
The link below is a good education source on meteorology. It is also free. If you are a serious weather watcher, like me, you will find it well worth your time.

Thanks Chris really coming down in Pikeville I have not measured but i guess 1.5 inches thats a guess.
3″ here in Bardstown/Nelson Co. Looking 4wrd to the next system! 🙂
CB..you’re THE BEST! 🙂
Anywhere from 2″-4″ in my yard north of Richmond depending where you measure. I live on a hill and the wind has blown it all around. I decided that since it was going to be bitterly cold tomorrow that I would just sled tonight which I just came back in from doing. The moon was peeking out so I didn’t even really need the flashlight. It was awesome! 40 going on 12. lol
As has been the case this winter, hard to tell with blowing/drifting, but I think around 4″ in Wilmore in about 5-6 hours!
4″ in NE Louisville near the Jefferson/Oldham county line.
Correction- a tad over 3″ and not 4″. Sky clearing now. Moon making the snow look like a night light.
I’m T_LEX and I agree the that statement. Just off of Trailwood in Westwood sub.
Untreated roads are a nightmare. Took an HOUR to get home from the Kroger on Alexandria at starting about 5:15, got home just in time to see TG. didn’t help that the person in front of me was going 2-3 mph. Slow is smart, but atleast go enough so you can keep traction.
I want to know what Winter has up her sleave for next week…Chris’s hints have whet my appetitie.
We got 4.5 inches in New Albany, IN
I have to give in to the master. I called for 2-3″ all week and at the last minute it came through for a little more for most clocking in at CB’s totals pretty much spot on. Good job CB!
I second that motion!
Even main roads were horrible! Traffic was really bad this evening… it took me over an hour to drive from the New Circle/Russell Cave area home to the Harrodsburg/Mason Headley area. It only takes about 10 minutes on a good day. No wrecks between there and home (I took the downtown route rather than New Circle), it was just VERY slow going.
Just a tad under 2 inches here in the Bush area about 4 miles east of London
2″ here.
I’m going to guess I just brushed about 3.5″ off my Mother’s driveway in Maysville. Sounds like they might have around 6″ back at home sweet home up in Cold Spring/Campbell County.
This is definitely a newer thing for UK. I remember a couple of night classes being canceled in my four years there… which wasn’t that long ago… but the only time they EVER canceled morning classes or had delays during my time there was during the ’03 ice storm. And we had plenty of snows comparable to this.
Will next weeks storm be the BIG ONE? how much do you think Cris?
We have about an inch Chris! You done good!!
Dude! I live one street over from Trailwood! Just finished shoveling the driveway and it is super slick out there! I agree with reference to the traffic! We came across town and I had to pick my way through side streets to avoid all of the jams on the major roads… I do a bunch of snow driving in the mountains of West Virginia and up in Chicagoland so admittedly I get a little bit frustrated… no worries though, I’ve got two capable AWD’s to make the trip comfy enough!
You mean the MSU that took a snow day during finals week?
All said and done, almost 4″ here in north E-Town, measured off the railing of my deck.
Wasn’t enough for me, but my kids thought it was “the best thing ever” 😀
It’s all pure & peaceful & beautiful again out there. I’ll take it….
Here is a pic I took outside my front door in Northwest Lexington looking at Trailwood Lane. Hope this link works:

we got about 3 here in Richmond. wish we would have gotten more! o well maybe we will get a bigger storm next week 🙂
We have about an inch, maybe a little more here in Grayson. It seems like we always get less than everyone around us. I don’t understand it.
On snowy E-town winter nights my kids and I used to go for the most peaceful walks down the railroad tracks which parallel North Main. We’d end up in the cemetery on the hill which overlooks the square – the whole town would be deep in winter slumber- shimmering in snow. Then off to Dairy Queen for hot cocoa! Ahhhh..great memories…a great town.
Snow has stopped in Richmond and we have a general 2-3 inches. Most of the roads/grass/etc. have a couple inches, while the cars and similar cold spots have around 3 inches.

2″ here in Northern Floyd Co. 2mi NW of Allen, and it has stopped. To bad no up-slope this round.

The moderation system on the board needs to be fixed. For starters, it has nothing to do with SUCCESS!

2.4 total here in Bowling Green. I will say on next week it would take little correction of the 00z gfs to make things intresting. However we also could get little. phasing once again will be key and the models will struggle.

What does the 00z gfs say? Is it that interesting?

girls let it be known he always adds an inch or two
5.25 in Independence. Go Packers!!!!
typical 1 to 2 ” snow
I wonder, then, why it seems so interesting? I never do totally understand these things…I’m along partially for the ride.:)
All most 2 inches here in my little corner of Jeffersonville Ky. Temps just too warm to start.
this model run is trying to imply a big storm next week. http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/gfs/00/images/gfs_pcp_126l.gif
took a good hit on this one! we made the high end of chris’s totals, maybe a tad beyond. Probably 7″, hard to tell with drifting. It’s a mess!
good thing they put this outA Level One Snow Emergency has been declared by most all Ohio counties that participate in the Snow Emergency declarations.
Athens, Morgan, Noble, and Washington counties are all under a level one declaration as of about 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
Level 1 reads “Roadways are Hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads are icy. Drive Cautiously.”
Higher levels might restrict travel in the counties, if issued by the county sheriffs.
3-to-6 inches of snow are expected overnight as the winter storm arrives in the MOV.!

6.0” exactly here but only 5.4 inch snowcover…i measure hour by hour and add it up which i think accounts for the difference…anyway 24 inches on the season!!!
looks like whatever it becomes will be all yours, Way south of my neck of the woods.
I really thankful to you for this great read!! You did a very great job, keep it up.
I have 4″ at my house in Nicholasville. That will give me 22.10″ for the season at my house.
Jake
Forgot to add earlier …thanks for all you do for this site
Awww that just took me there… beautiful. thanks 🙂
I love how a peaceful snowy night brings me a little closer to God, with a little more joy in my heart…calms my soul… and I am so thankful there is still beauty in this fallen world..
A solid 3″ here in Owensboro. Snowed harder than I’ve seen in a few years, huge flakes at times. Hoping for more next week!
A little under an inch at home in extreme southwestern Pike Co. About the same at work in Letcher Co.
Definitely new for UK. I was a junior in January ’94 when the 20 inches hit Lexington. The KY Governor was telling people to stay off the roads, but UK still held classes. I remember my car was completely buried in a snow drift, you could only really see the top half. I made it to one class and was one of 4 people there, not including the prof. I went home and didn’t go back out!
Here in South Louisville we have just over 3″ throughout the backyard. Now its just very cold. Hopefully more snow awaits the area next week!
