Good evening, folks. Maintenance on KWC continues and, as frustrating it is to you, it’s way more frustrating to me. Still, we press on without graphics until the issue gets resolved.

Our Winter Storm THREAT will be upgraded to an Alert later tonight, but I want to see one more set of model runs.

The late afternoon runs of all models not named the GFS trended back toward a more widespread hitting event. Of course, runs vary and that’s why you rarely ever see me waffle based on computer model runs.

Let me fire off some thoughts to ya:

  • This will be a widespread snowfall impacting the entire state.
  • Snow amounts will generally range from 1″-6″ across Kentucky, but I can see a scenario where higher amounts get into the mix.
  • Snow ratios are much higher than the normal 10-1 and that will play into totals.
  • Slick and snow-covered roads are likely Thursday through Friday and snow days should be plentiful.
  • Temps will crash into the teens from the northwest Thursday afternoon and evening.
  • Lows Friday morning reach the single digits with wind chills below zero.
  • Some leftover flakes may still fly on Friday.

I will have a FIRST CALL FOR SNOWFALL coming up tonight at 10pm on WKYT News on the CW Lexington and then again on the typical WKYT News at 11.

Normal update comes your way later tonight. Here’s hoping the site is back to normal by then. For some normalcy, here is your interactive radar to follow the storm system out west and the arctic air diving into it…

follow along…

Enjoy the evening and take care.
