Good Saturday, folks. It’s a windy and cold start to the final weekend of March and it’s one featuring a few snowflakes flying for parts of the state. While this is part of an overall colder than normal look for the next few weeks, it doesn’t mean we can’t have some springtime days in there.

As a matter of fact, a big surge of spring warmth by Wednesday is likely to be accompanied by strong and severe storms.

Let’s begin this party with what’s happening out there today. Highs are generally running in the low and middle 40s for many with the coldest air across the east. This is also where some rain and snow showers will be firing up.

As usual, your friendly radars are on the job…

Temps are cold on Sunday with highs only in the 40s and lows deep into the 20s. We will be back in the 20s by Monday morning with some afternoon mild air back into western Kentucky, but that mild air has a tough time getting into the central and east.

That may touch off a rain or snow shower in the north and east Monday night and early Tuesday.

A shot of warm air then wins the battle for a day on Wednesday. That’s when temps surge deep into the 70s on a strong southwest wind ahead of a powerful low heading toward the Great lakes. That drags a cold front through here and we are likely to see strong to severe storms ahead of this…

That’s a threat we need to keep a close eye on this setup.

Colder air then sweeps in behind that with another low potentially zipping in behind that next weekend…

This is part of a much colder than normal start to the month of April. Check out the big dip in the jet stream on April 1st…

This is a very ugly look a few days later on April 4th…

You can’t say you haven’t been warned of this cold spring pattern.

Have a happy Saturday and take care.
