Good Saturday, folks. Winter weather continues to show up across the state today with rain, sleet and snow showers. Once we get through this, much warmer air surges in for Sunday into much of next week. That’s when we flip the weather script and throw the chance for strong to severe storms into the mix.

Today’s action is a continuation of the wild stuff we had out there for Friday. Thunder and lightning joined in the party and I can’t rule out a little more of that out there today. Snow showers are much more common to start the day and we may very well see some slushy accumulations. Here are your radars for the day…

A hard freeze in the 20s starts Sunday before the numbers take off. Highs should reach the upper 50s and low 60s in the north and east with 60s for the rest of central and eastern Kentucky. The 70s now look to push into the west.

From there, it gets really warm through the first half of next week as a ridge of high pressure takes over in the eastern part of the country. That happens as a deep trough dips into the west. This trough slowly ejects eastward through the middle and end of the week…

That brings some storms in here for Monday and Tuesday and a few could be strong. A much better threat for strong to severe storms shows up by Wednesday into early Thursday as a powerful storm system lifts toward the Lakes…

The GFS is pretty emphatic on the rounds of storms producing heavy rains in here…

The EURO is notably drier…

Once this pulls out, another deep trough takes control of the eastern half of the country…

The EURO Ensembles continue to feature some well below normal temps. This is the average 7 day temp departure from normal for April 15-22…

Some of the ensemble members bring the threat for some late season flakes back into the region during this time. I. Am. Not. Happy.

Enjoy the day and take care.
