Good Sunday, folks. After back to back days of winter weather across the region, we are getting a much needed visit from spring today. This warmer air will kick off a stormy pattern for the week ahead as we track rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms.
Temps out there today reach the low and mid 60s across the east with low and middle 70s in the west. That’s where a shower or storm may develop during the evening.
The setup for the next several days will feature rounds of showers and storms targeting the area. Some of these storms may be strong or severe Monday and Tuesday with the greatest threat for severe storms coming Wednesday into early Thursday.
While much of the state will see some storms Monday and Tuesday, the Storm Prediction Center is focusing on the west for the best chance for severe weather. Here’s the Monday Severe Weather Outlook…
Here’s what they are seeing for Tuesday…
Storms across the entire region could be strong and put down enough rain to cause local high water issues.
The greatest threat continues to show up Wednesday into early Thursday and this map I made late Wednesday still holds up well…
That’s likely to turn into a pretty big severe weather outbreak for a large chunk of the country.
This unleashes another much colder than normal pattern behind it for much of the rest of April. Let’s look at the 10 day temp departure from normal from the GFS Ensembles for April 15-25…
That’s the 10 day average, folks and it’s just absurd. Flakes again?
I leave you with your storm tracking tools for the action coming in from the west later today…
Make it a great Sunday and take care.
I kinda enjoyed this weekend’s festivities.
At least we have’t received any real Severe Weather so far.
This morning low temperature was 28 degrees here in Maple.
We need Sunshine and warmer temperatures to start the growing season !
Absurd is an understatement! Yesterday’s gusty winds and temperatures in the 40’s made it seem like mid November, instead of April. Last night we bottomed out at 29° in Bowling Green, and rise to the mid 70’s this afternoon. I’m really concerned about the potential for severe storms on Wednesday, but especially so over the next several weeks, as an active storm track plus a steep temperature gradient put Kentucky in the line of fire.
