Good Sunday, everyone. We have some thunderstorms rolling across parts of the state today and this is the first of several systems ready to impact us during this first week of May. Unfortunately, this may extend into Kentucky Derby Weekend. Ugh.
Let’s start with our Sunday and roll ahead. The day is starting out with a line of storms racing across the state. This will weaken into the east, but another line may develop late morning into the afternoon. This could bring some strong to severe storms in the east while the rest of the state deals with much better weather. Here’s today’s Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center…
Highs today are into the 70s with a gusty wind blocking. Overall, today’s a pretty good day for most.
Monday finds mainly dry weather with temps back into the 70s. As the next system moves toward the region, the threat for a few thunderstorms gets back into the west during the evening. The Storm Prediction Center has the far west in the low-end risk for a few severe storms…
This is ahead of another storm system rolling into the region for Tuesday and Tuesday night. This brings more rounds of strong storms in here…
Here’s where the SPC has the best chance for Tuesday severe storms…
That front gets in and slows down with some scattered action into Wednesday. From there, we cue up the next system due in here late Thursday into Kentucky Oaks Day Friday. That brings additional rounds of showers and storms…
There’s a real chance for this system to hang around for Kentucky Derby Saturday…
I told you guys this pattern was loaded with storm threats for early May. This looks like a very stormy month that features above normal rainfall and temps near or below normal.
I leave you with your Sunday storm tracking toys…
Possible Watch Areas
Have a great Sunday and take care.
Thanks Chris, here in Maple we had .82 inches of much needed rain that occurred early this morning and was accompanied by lightning and thunder, but not anything severe. A great start to May. Hoping we will have more rain this coming month, but not with floods or severe weather ?
One day we are hoping will be mild and dry and that day is this Saturday for the Derby. The past several years it has rained and we do not need another ” Mudder.”
Since midnight, we had 1.28″ of rain at my PWS near Bowling Green, from storms that raged for several hours. They were certainly loud, with frequent lightning, but none were severe, although I did record a peak wind gust of 27 mph at 12:50 am. Yesterday’s high was 82°. It would be nice to see consistent upper 70’s, low 80’s, but our La Nińa driven temperature roller-coaster continues to maintain its influence, and will for the foreseeable future.
JOE, Check out the CAPE for the weeks ahead. J/kg over 2000. Could be the start of a very stormy period ?
