Good Sunday to one and all. Heat is building into western Kentucky today and will overspread the state over the next few days. This hit and run heat wave will be introduced by the threat for clusters of strong storms later today into Monday.
Before we get into where we go, let’s look at where we’ve been this early summer. The first 10 days of June have been cooler than normal for much of the country…
Let’s get into the heat and storm part of the weather program.
TODAY
- Temps reach the 90s in the west with 80s across the east.
- Heat index values hit 100 or a little better in the west.
- A few thunderstorms may wander in from the northwest through tonight and some of these may be severe. The SPC has the area in the low-end risk…

MONDAY
- Highs surge into the mid and upper 90s in the west with a local 100 possible. Upper 80s and low 90s will be noted in the east.
- Heat index values reach the danger category for many. 100-110 for the west and 95-100 in the east.
- We are still watching for a storm clusters across the central and east, and some of these may be strong or severe…

TUESDAY
- This looks like the core of the heat wave.
- Highs will be around 100 in the west with low and middle 90s central and east.
- Heat index values across the state will be between 100 and 110 degrees.
- There’s still a storm risk
WEDNESDAY
- The numbers are likely to come down a few degrees from Tuesday.
- Highs of 95-100 in the west and 90-95 east.
- Heat index values will still be in the 100-110 category.
- There’s the chance for a storm or two to go up. This could really help us out if they go up early enough and the GFS is giving us a good shot at late day storms blossoming in the heat and humidity…
THURSDAY
- A cold front drops in from the northwest late in the day.
- Showers and storms will be around in scattered fashion, and the threat is there for strong to severe storms.
- Highs ahead of this front will still be in the 90-95 degree range with a heat index around 100 or so.
FRIDAY
- Feels much better as we break the real deal heat as the front moves through.
- This brings a line of storms dropping in from north to south…

Much better air moves in for next weekend with normal to a below normal settling in. Lows may reach the 50s again…
I’m torn on what happens after this as we have a fight taking shape, with Kentucky right on the fence between heat and pleasant. Throw in the increasing potential for something tropical firing in the Gulf around the same time and we get a lot of uncertainty.
I leave you with your storm tracking tools for the day…

Make it a great day and take care.
