Good Thursday, everyone. Stop me if you’ve heard this before… It’s another September feeling day in the Bluegrass state.😎 That’s a phrase I will not get tired of saying. While we look to keep the pleasant temps through the weekend into next week, the threat of storms will really start to ramp.
Temps today are mainly 80-85 in most of the state as humidity levels run on the low side. Skies are partly to mostly sunny with just the slightest chance for a shower or storm going up. Here are your radars to find anything that pops…
The threat for some showers and storms will increase just a bit for Friday and that may impact a few high school football games, especially in the east and southeast. Highs are 80-85 for most of the state on another nice day.
The main theme of the forecast continues to be for upper level lows to spin across our region through the weekend and into next week. You can see that well on the models…

The end result is an increase in showers and storms over the weekend into the first part of next week. The peak of the rain should be Sunday into Monday…

You can see how that system slowly pulls away on Tuesday after leaving behind some decent rains. Obviously, we will need to watch for heavy rain numbers showing up, especially in the east.
The tropics remain fairly quiet with only one system of note from the National Hurricane Center…
I’ve mentioned how the pattern argues for something in the Gulf late in the month or early September and we are seeing some of the models hinting at this by late next week…

We shall see, but a burst of hurricane action is likely in the Atlantic basin.
Make it a great Thursday and take care.
Who can complain about the temps.
I doubted the long distance forecast for the summer during the spring. But it appears they were right about the below than normal temps.
I am happy the tropics have been inactive.
Hope we can keep this nice weather through September. Periodic showers are welcome anytime though, without the flooding rains and severe weather.
The Tropical Atlantic and the Caribbean may or not have any activity later in the month or the beginning of September. I am hoping it will stay quiet too, as we do not want anymore disasters.
Lets all hope we have a great rest of the year followed by a Cold and Snowy Winter.
“One of” the worst storms I saw in Lexington was Sept 2006 (I think I have the year right).. at it was about 11pm and lasted until around 1 am.. It wasn’t one cell… it was this southwest to northeast line of storms that just put the brakes on and keep training and it was intense! I remember the rainfall map showing from Frankfort all the way over to Fayette county (especially the northern half of Fayette which included downtown… I think it rained 7 inches…I think a few people died being swept away at UK… Maybe it was one person I can’t remember.
