Good Wednesday, everyone. We’ve made it to the middle of the work week and we have more of the same kind of weather out there. This awesome air is actually settling in for the long haul, but the threat for showers and storms will slowly increase over the weekend.
Today’s weather features temps back into the upper 70s and low 80s for many with low humidity levels. A mix of sun and clouds will be noted with the chance for a scattered shower or storm going up during the afternoon and evening. Here are the radars…
Thursday features more of the same before we see an uptick in the storm chances later Friday. Those chances increase over the weekend as another upper level system drops in from the northwest. This should be accompanied by a couple more systems through next week, but the models handle them a little differently.
Here’s the GFS…
The Canadian…
And the EURO…
Overall, that keeps a below normal temperature pattern going through most of the rest of the month.
It’s also a pattern that may feature some pretty good rains from later this week into next week. The models are showing the heaviest rain just to our south, but it’s too close for comfort…

The Farmer’s Almanac is out with their winter forecast and it’s showing our region in a cold and snowy pattern…
That does match the 2010/11 winter I’ve thrown around as a possible analog.❄🥶😏
Have a great day and take care.
I’m more than ready for the “cold and snowy”. In fact, while going through my shed out back I came across a couple of snow shovels that I brought with me, when I moved to Kentucky from Pennsylvania over 25 years ago. So, bring it on!
My least favorite forecast of the three models is the Canadian scenario.
Very pleasant weather for the Ohio Valley to end August and it’s after a very hot and dry beginning of Summer. The West continues to bake under the strong influence of a high pressure ridge and water shortages are showing up in some areas. The only way this will change for the West is if and when we enter an El Nino cycle sometime hopefully early next Spring ?
The Almanac prediction for Winter is a little premature and it looks a lot like their prediction for this time last year. Lets forecast the coming Autumn first and then predict the coming Winter sometime in November.
