Good Saturday to one and all. Our much colder than normal fall continues as we end the growing this weekend. This is coming a little earlier than normal with a killing frost and light freeze showing up for many.
This is a pattern that has had no problem bringing us stout cold shots over the past 3 weeks and I think it has a lot left in the tank. There are even some interesting signals showing up later this month.
Let’s start with today and hit the fast-forward button.
Our Saturday begins with a killing frost and even a light freeze for some. Areas in the east and southeast may have a little fog to deal with, keeping temps up just a bit. Highs today won’t get to 60 for some.
Tonight is when temps drop into the upper 20s and low 30s statewide. That’s when the light freeze really shows up. Highs Sunday afternoon range from the upper 50s to middle 60s with another amazing fall sky.
Thermometers recover in a big way into early next week as we get ready for a big fall storm system that’s set to impact our region later Wednesday and Thursday. As expected, the models are coming in line of a deeper system with the EURO now showing a major storm system…
That kind of look could include strong storms with very windy weather. The EURO is also spitting out some hefty rains…
Check out the cold air surging in behind this…
The longer range EURO ESNSEMBLES are already hinting at another deep trough to follow that one up…
As I’ve mentioned, there are some interesting signals showing up later this month into early November. I’m going to talk more about those signals with my next update.
Have a great Saturday and take care.
The Louisville Airport picked up a whopping 0.01 inch of rain Thursday.
I hope the rain in the forecast materializes next week.
The NWS out of Louisville has a 50% chance of showers late next week. For my area, the Ventusky is calling for zero rain chances through the 21 st. We may go through the month of October without any precipitation ? The current temperature here in Maple is 39 degrees, but I expect it will cool enough to form some frost before Sunrise ? Best chance for widespread frost is tomorrow morning in my area. Don’t know about any Freezes just yet.
Good news for the Gulf Coast States. Tropical Storm Julia is expected to move and make landfall somewhere in Nicaragua. Julia is forecast to become a minimum Hurricane sometime tomorrow and quickly dissipate after making landfall. I notice on this morning’s map that cold fronts are making it all the way through the Central Gulf of Mexico. Haven’t seen this for a long time. Could be a signal for the upcoming Winter ?
Joe from Bowling Green mentioned the history forecast of Tropical Storm Julia Yesterday evening. I always give credit where credit is due.
Thank you! Some actual movement in the weather…. LOL
Feels to weird to turn cold without a storm system.. Yes, there was a front…but usually a front that drops the temps like this is associated with a huge rain/wind storm… Only we were bone dry…we stayed bone dry….front passed…temps dropped… No rain…
the provider that Chris uses for this blog should really check their flagging of words…. I mean, I wrote a paragraph (yes, I know I should have copied it before posting..but I forgot) and it didn’t post and I remembered why….because I used the word -the front “p-a-s-s-e-d” through..seriously? Think how many words have that 3 letter word…and that’s one of the milder words really…I don’t even consider it a curse word. And any time I’ve never been flagged is because of that word…those 3 letters were contained within the word I used….
anyway – good to see the weather moving again. So weird to have a front go through to bring a temp change like we’ve had only for there to be zero rain. Usually it’s associated with rain/wind…then turns cold.
tried to post two comments…flagged the first time for using a word that contained 3 letters. You know the word…not even a cuss word really…I give up…the system here flags the stupidest words.
The commentator should be aloud to use any word as long as the word doesn’t insult the owner of the Blog or another commentator.
Thanks Schroeder!
Not sure whether this is related to Mark’s issue, but an odd thing just happened when I tried to log into KWC on a new tablet. A page opens with the headline:
“Your access to this site has been temporarily limited by the site owner”.
The reason is provided a little further down:
“You have been temporarily locked out of this system. This means that you will not be able to log in for a while”
Weird…
I’m sending this message from my smartphone. I guess my tablet must not be smart enough!
While I’m here, the temperature at my PWS site got down to 36°F last night, but I did not notice any frost damage on my tomato plants or grape vine (they’re my organic frost indicators)
You are welcome Joe. I really enjoy all the information you provide here on KWC. I don’t understand why one of the best commentator on Meteorology is ” lock out ” of the comment section ? I would contact Chris Bailey and ask why you were receiving that message on your new tablet. I sure it will be straightened out. It’s temporary and I hope not too long.
We had some patchy frost and a morning low of 35 degrees. Glad your Tomatoes and grapes made it through the frost this morning. If there are any large green ones on the vine go ahead and harvest them and bring them indoors and they may ripen in a week or so. If they don’t, you can have fried green tomatoes great with catfish and hush puppies !
Schroeder, I sent a note on to Chris about the lockout. Another weird thing that’s happening on my tablet is that the last date it’s displaying is Sept. 29th, and weirder still is that it happens on Chrome and Firefox, but the Samsung browser works fine! Several commentators on Twitter were having the same problem, so maybe these issues are somehow related.
Absolutely regarding the green tomatoes, that’s next on my agenda!
That is strange but I know Chris will help you solve this, Joe. I have two Dell computer Laptops, both Dells Inspirons. One is 14 years old and is Windows 7, the other one is 4 years old and is running Windows 10. Both use Chrome, but the 14 year old Dell is much better than the 4 year old Laptop. Since you are able to access this forum on your Samsung browser sounds like they are having issues as you mentioned others are having the same issue. I am sure they will get things back to normal soon. Good luck on your tomatoes.
the word that got flagged was P@-s-s-ing Like a front p@s-s-ing through.
