Good Saturday everyone. The weather pattern over the next week is one we may be able to file under the “wow” category. To say things are looking active would be an understatement as we have the potential for flooding rains… accumulating snows and arctic cold temps over the next week.
Let’s start with the high water threat as this could become a serious situation into the first half of next week. This has been a record setting year for rain across much of the state and this fall put a lot of water into the ground and into our streams and rivers.
A stalled out front with areas of low pressure moving along it will being several days of heavy rains back into our region. Take a look at what I’m expecting…
Rain totals may approach or exceed 5″ in some areas during this time. Our rivers are pretty much full and the above totals will likely send many of them into flood. If you live along a river… please keep up to date on how this plays out in the coming days.
Much colder air is going to surge in here from west to east late Tuesday into Wednesday. This should change the rain over to snow with the potential for accumulating snows Wednesday and Wednesday night. That’s about all I can say right now is that the potential is most certainly there as another low pressure is likely to develop along the front just to our east. This shows up well on the European Model…
You will also notice the monster push of arctic air surging in here by later Friday. That’s a big time blast of cold air that would be accompanied by snow and gusty winds.
We actually find the European and the GFS agreeing on how all this plays out…
There you have it… a week ahead that is likely to make you say “wow” for many different reasons.
The flood threat is first and foremost and is something to REALLY stay updated on over the next few days. The blog will be here each and every step of the way with the latest updates. Yes… I will follow the cold and snow angle of it all too.
Have a great Saturday and take care.

I say let the fun and games begin! Thanks, Chris for all that you do on this weather blog.
Looks like Lexington will get those four inches needed for Wettest Year Ever.
Rain this time of year = muddy horses and torn up fields. Definitely not a good thing. 🙁
Thanks, Chris. WOW may not be strong enough. Looks like a wet and wild week, for sure. Today looks very nice, though. When do you think the rain will arrive? Are we looking at afternoon, evening, or what? Either way, it sounds like a umbrella salesman could make a killing over the next few days! Have a great Saturday, Chris, and all! Headed to Lexvegas to do some shopping. (With the ballgame at Rupp, the stores should be all but deserted!) 😉
Well Chris you are the first one to throw out more than a dusting of snow. Could you make sure it stays off the roads – I have a new driver in the household… Scarey for us mom’s. 🙂
I hear ya on the mud. I have horses, too. The worst part is when it freezes and makes hard craters the horses won’t walk on. The rain last week flooded my chicken and duck houses. I see I’m in for it again. I’m really done with rain until spring.
Our horses run only when the ground is super soft. They run and buck and slip and slide and make a mess of the fields and then, like you said, the craters freeze and it’s impossible to walk safely.
Your poor chickens and ducks! I know there’s a saying of, “Nice weather for ducks”, but they probably don’t want water in their house!
Good luck! We’re moving our goats into the barn since their feet can’t handle the mud for long periods of time. They will bellow, bleat and bawl.
Can you tell I am also done with rain?!
WOW some models are saying 25 inches of snow from Oklahoma to Missouri check out these 2 model runs any chance we can get on some of the action?

Funny thing, I just gave the word ‘Wow’ a French flair, kinda like Steve Martin’s ‘Inspector Clouseau’ trying to pronounce the word hamburger in the Pink Panther, and it sounds just like ‘Whoa!’
I think that’s what Chris meant to say instead of Wow.
i guess the models updated cause their not showing what they were earlier
C!
A long time ago it was raining hard and I wore one of those cheap plastic ponchos (that you buy at outdoor events etc.) to get my horses out of the field. They bolted away, turned around looked and at me white-eyed, ears perked and snorting at me. I briefly wondered what the heck got into them until it occurred to me that I must have looked like the biggest “giant plastic bag monster” they’d ever seen coming after them. They were completely terrified of me. Horses are so silly… 🙂
The WHITE some times does not show up in KY, but BIG BLUE did today 🙂
good win today by the CATS, BUT unless MARCUS TEAGUE wakes up at POINT GUARD we WILL NOT WINA TITLE, kid got to play and be more agressive. he can get in the lane when ever he wants to but that it, he gives it up. to passive.
on the weather my 10 days from TURKEY DAY FIRST SNOW was wrong, wrongwrong, but hell who cares i missed it by a week or so!!!
tx CB!! BUT i got bad feeling models will be so,so right on the HEAVY RAIN but so,so wrong on any MAJIOR snow.
LOL! I can easily see my horses acting exactly the same way. They don’t seem to recognize me if I’m wearing a coat, hat, gloves, etc.
One day a silver balloon floated our way and decided to stick around and bob up and down right next to the barn. It had just enough helium to float about five feet off the ground. The horses went bonkers.
