Good Tuesday, everyone. Winds are cranking out there today as a storm system rolls into the Commonwealth. This is bringing the threat for strong storms in here and is part of an overall pattern change that takes us into a more active setup. There’s even a little winter possible into early November.
Let’s start this out with some headlines about today’s weather:
- Low pressure is working from Texas to the Ohio Valley today through Wednesday.
- This brings rounds of showers and storms in from southwest to northeast.
- Some of the storms may be strong or severe with the greatest threat being across the west and south. The primetime is late afternoon and evening.
- Gusty winds are the main threat with or without storms. 40mph gusts will be possible.
- Wrapround clouds and gusty showers will be with us into Wednesday across the central and east.
- Highs on Wednesday stay in the 50-55 degree range with clouds and hit the low 60s in the west.
The Storm Prediction Center continues with a low-end risk for a few severe storms in parts of the region…

Temps on Wednesday come way down and may stay close to 50 for much of central and eastern Kentucky. Leftover clouds and a few showers will be noted.
Thursday and Friday look pretty nice as of now, but we will have to fight some clouds. Highs on Thursday reach the upper 50s to middle 60s across the state with everyone in the 60s for Friday.
Another storm system slowly moves in here from the southwest for Halloween Weekend, but the exact arrival time varies a bit on the models.
The Canadian is the fastest of the models, but it’s also the most consistent…
The EURO is the slowest of the bunch with the main impact time arriving late Sunday and lasting through day one of November…
Once that system moves away, we will likely see a big fight take place with a winter trough in the west trying to fight it’s way to the east. At the same time, don’t be surprised if we aren’t dealing with some kind of tropical system developing in the Caribbean at the same time. That might be a good battle to watch!
I will have the latest on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm with updates as needed. I leave you with your normal dose of storm tracking toys…
Possible Watch Areas
Have a terrific Tuesday and take care.

blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Any rain will be beneficial. We need several systems that will give us a good all day soaker to break this drought.
Best chance for any rain is in your area of Western Kentucky. Most of the heaviest rain is along and west of St. Louis, Mo. according to the radar. All we have here in South Central Kentucky are overcast skies and some Sun at times.
I noticed this morning when I ran the 500 hPa that the troughs in the Northwest are strong coming in, but weaken considerably moving into our part of the country. Also the troughs are becoming oriented southwest to northeast which indicates the presence of the blocking ridge to our southeast. What a change from the past few weeks.
Glad there isn’t dry lightning to cause a fire with this rain system. We may receive 0.15 ” here in Maple more North. Maybe Halloween will be rainy?
It may only lasted for an hour, but finally got a good soaking rain while it lasted here in far western,ky
