Good evening gang. Heavy rains continue to work across much of central and eastern Kentucky. The flood threat will be on the rise into the overnight hours and if you live in a flood prone area… please keep an eye on water levels. We have talked a lot about the high water threat and there really isn’t anything else I can say about it.
I want to take this time to talk about the snow threat. Western Kentucky has been seeing on and off snows since last evening and this is an area that has the chance at getting in on heavy snow later tonight into early Tuesday. The snows can come down hard enough to accumulate quickly in some areas as this has been happening across parts of Tennessee. The rest of the state will then get in on some snow later Tuesday into early Wednesday.
Here’s a rough look at what i’m thinking…
The area of western Kentucky I have highlighted in the heavy snow threat will be the one to really watch out for tonight. The area I have as “watching” is an area that will be on the cusp of the heavier snow. I am not mentioning accumulations because it’s not a given the heaviest snow sneaks that far north out of Tennessee. If it does materialize… then 2″-4″ of snow would be possible for some areas. IF!
Areas of west central and southern Kentucky will see some snow mixing in with the rain by morning as cold air lifts northward. Many areas will see a break in the precip tomorrow afternoon before the backlash rain and snows move in from the northwest tomorrow night. This is when some local, light accumulations will be possible.

i don’t know much about how storms move and work but i noticed it has rotation with that mean that later on tonight western KY will get heavy snow IF cold enough from the wrap around precip
pretty cool watching the cold air wrap in out west, can see the low so perfect on the radar as it rotates.
tx CB.

I’m hoping it does. Patiently waiting here in murray. Down to 35 degrees and still raining mostly. Looks like we might get dry slotted for a while. Nobody down here is calling for anything more than the possibility of a dusting
My daughter at Ole Miss is expecting 3-5 inches of snow tonight.
Thanks CB!! You’re the best!!
NWS in MEMPHIS has a link to snow fall reports if your interested…

Gee, Chris, just think….if it had been cold enough, wouldn’t this have been a big one! 😉
As it is, I am beginning to think about finding some web-footed shoes to wear as I am wading water in out parking lot.
Looking forward to seeing (hopefully) some snow showers tomorrow and tomorrow night. Thanks for all you do, Chris. Especially for all the updates you give to help your fellow Kentuckians abreast of the flooding possibilities. It is much appreciated!
Anyone seen the latest Palmer Drought Index? Just wondering if parts of Kentucky were still drought stricken. 🙂
