Good Monday to one and all. Heavy rain continues to fall across the bluegrass state and this trend will continue into early Tuesday. High water will continue to be a big concern during this time as we await the wintry aspect of this storm.
Parts of western Kentucky saw some snow from this system overnight and they could see a few more flakes early today. Let’s break down the evolution of this bad boy…
– The slug of rain will continue to hang tough across the state today. Many areas will pick up another 1″-2″ of rain into tonight. This will fall on the 1″-2″ of rain we’ve already received and flooding should become, at least, a local issue.
– Flooding is also likely on some of the rivers across the state. Warnings for parts of the Green, Licking and Ohio Rivers are already out and I expect more to follow.
– Temps today are going to be wild looking with readings in the 50s to near 60 east with upper 30s and low 40s west. Temps in between could actually fluctuate several degrees in yo yo fashion today.
– The big upper level low parked to our south today and tonight will produce snow all the way into the deep south. This stuff may reach all the way into northern Louisiana!
– The upper low swings northward into our region on Tuesday and we will see temps drop rapidly from south to north.
– Rain will mix with some snow as the colder air sweeps in from the south. We should see some dry hours thrown into the mix.
– A comma head of rain and snow will then work in Tuesday night behind the departing area of low pressure. This is when a light snowfall can occur in many areas as light snow and flurries carry us into early Wednesday. Here is the GFS snow forecast…
We shall see how that works out. Take a look at just how far south the snow is on that map. That’s impressive!
Here are your tracking toys for the day…

NOT FUNNY TIM. Especially since I lived there for 5 years and it did NOTHING. GRR!!
😉
yeah, don’t it make you want to pull your hair out…lol…
Should not be a surprise; I am just as frustrated north of Nashville; this is the same song and dance as the last two Winters!
LOL. So we know that eastern ky is not going to be gettin in on any significant snow, but if you look at the national weather service there is not so much as a hazardous weather outlook…… No mention of rain or anything. JKL=JOKE
Thru 10:00am, Louisville at 3rd wettest year all-time
Lexington at 4th wettest year all-time and climbing fast
Both locations are now in the top ten wettest Novembers also.
Still adding to the totals….
Just peeked at the 48 hr precip forecast on weather.com and snow all around KY, as far south as MS and AL. What does it show for CKY? Rain, of course. The dome is alive and well.
re-occurring theme of the past few winters…winter storms happen North, South, East, and West of the wonderful bluegrass state of Kentucky! lol. I hope everyone is dreaming of a WET Christmas…
It is just crazy looking at the models how the whole state of Kentucky pretty much gets dry slotted when the cold air moves into place with this storm. The snowfall is shown to basically enclose Kentucky on the north, west, and south
It’s November 28th and everyone is already becoming negative nancy’s. Lol.
Any snow that falls south or west of us will melt within a few hours this time of year. I would rather get a few inches of snow when it has a chance to hang around a few days, how about December 24th! 🙂
Snowed here in October and had a light coat on the deck. We have had plenty of moisture and the temperatures are going back to a below average. And i am positive, at least around where i live, that there was plenty of snow last year. Maybe not a big one but we had plenty snow for sure.
That’s what I’m saying lol the snowdome has been fairly lenient as of late 😉
Betcha we still see some pretty flakes out of this 🙂
well sun popped out here in barbourville, temps. soared into the 60’s!! with some beautiful rainbows in the sky!! all this while its snowing in west ky,tn, northern miss. and Al…crazy…..34*/snowing in jackson tn. just west of memphis…and 67,windy,and sprinkles here in southern ky..UPSIDE DOWN…lol…
oops, i meant to say jackson is east of memphis not to their west…
Yeah jackson is now reporting heavy snow and 33 degrees. Here in Murray we have been dealing with this cold rain. 37 currently and have been mixing in sleet and snow flurries all day
yeah, I just saw a raw video out of jackson tn, on TWC showing heavy, huge snowflakes falling and the ground is white !!!. and I was watching a live video on chasers.com of a guy in n. alabama showing snow/rain mix !!
Chris, any chance you can draw a snow map for tonight/tomorrow for this heavy snow you anticipate for west KY? Will it include I65 corridor? Are you getting this info from a a new model run we havent seen?
I was wondering the same thing 🙂
