Good Saturday and Merry Christmas Eve. Our Christmas weekend is one we will never forget as bitterly cold air and snow continue to transition the Bluegrass state into the North Pole. While we track this brutal air, we are also watching another snow system by Monday.

Here’s a breakdown of the weekend…

 Today

  • Temps are -5 to 5 to start the day. Wind chills are still at -20 or so.
  • Highs reach the upper single digits to low teens. Wind chills will still be close to -10
  • Snow showers and a few snow squalls will kick in and may cause some issues.
  • Local accumulations will show up and may reduce visibilities to near zero at times.

Christmas Eve

  • Temps will be in the single digits with wind chills around -10 as Santa arrives.
  • Snow showers will taper to flurries.

Christmas Day

  • Lows around zero with a wind chill of -10 to -15 start the day.
  • Highs are in the teens with a wind chill improving into the -5 to 5 degree range
  • A few flurries will be noted.

The next systme dropping in here on Monday continues to show up a little better on the models. The initial thinking on this is that it brings a fairly widespread swath of 2″-4″ snows to the region and I should have a First Call map out later today.

Here’s how the GFS is handling this system…

And the Canadian…

Once this goes through, the pattern turns milder for the closing days of the year and into the first few days of the new year. I’m concerned we could get into a really wet pattern before Old Man Winter regains control late in the first week or the second week of January.

On this Christmas Eve, I leave you with the most appropriate song for this Christmas Eve…

Have a Merry Christmas Eve and take care.
