Good Saturday and Merry Christmas Eve. Our Christmas weekend is one we will never forget as bitterly cold air and snow continue to transition the Bluegrass state into the North Pole. While we track this brutal air, we are also watching another snow system by Monday.
Here’s a breakdown of the weekend…
Today
- Temps are -5 to 5 to start the day. Wind chills are still at -20 or so.
- Highs reach the upper single digits to low teens. Wind chills will still be close to -10
- Snow showers and a few snow squalls will kick in and may cause some issues.
- Local accumulations will show up and may reduce visibilities to near zero at times.
Christmas Eve
- Temps will be in the single digits with wind chills around -10 as Santa arrives.
- Snow showers will taper to flurries.
Christmas Day
- Lows around zero with a wind chill of -10 to -15 start the day.
- Highs are in the teens with a wind chill improving into the -5 to 5 degree range
- A few flurries will be noted.
The next systme dropping in here on Monday continues to show up a little better on the models. The initial thinking on this is that it brings a fairly widespread swath of 2″-4″ snows to the region and I should have a First Call map out later today.
Here’s how the GFS is handling this system…
And the Canadian…
EURO
Once this goes through, the pattern turns milder for the closing days of the year and into the first few days of the new year. I’m concerned we could get into a really wet pattern before Old Man Winter regains control late in the first week or the second week of January.
On this Christmas Eve, I leave you with the most appropriate song for this Christmas Eve…
Have a Merry Christmas Eve and take care.
Cheers to all! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays however YOU choose to celebrate! 🙂
Thanks Chris, Will be glad when the Arctic climate we have here now goes back to where it belongs and we return to normal. A rainy pattern is what we need to replenish the soil moisture before Spring planting season. But, we do not need high water issues. Could be a very interesting Winter ahead with the clipper systems coming this far south. May have phasing storm systems. Lots of chances for Snowstorms, but I hope there are no Ice Storms ?
Happy Christmas Eve to All !
Merry Christmas! Hope all folks have power!
New coating of snow overnight, Rolling blackouts continue across Tennessee and North Carolina. Hoping this doesn’t happen in Kentucky.
Merry Christmas and Happy holidays to all!
The electrical cooperative that serves Warren County was going to institute rolling blackouts, but canceled them a the last minute. Bowling Green’s BGMU had at least one round that affected a subdivision near me, but hopefully that was it.
A wet period with the ground frozen solid would not be good, as most of the the ran would runoff, at least initially.
I wonder why the Clipper begins to weekend after it leaves Ky.?
It is forecasted to fall during the day.
At least in Louisville. The system is on the march.
Clipper weakens as it encounters a building Southeast Ridge.
Bless your heart Chris! Working so hard to keep us safe, especially at this time of the year. If I could get to you I’d bring you baked goods to show my appreciation. Until then I can only offer my heartfelt thank you and wish you a Merry Christmas with abundant blessings!
Merry Christmas Eve to Chris and all my fellow lovers!!! I was thinking about the big flood of 1977 I hope never to see that again but didn’t we have a lot of snow that winter proceeding that??? To all the ones of us mature enough or old enough to remember lol ???
I turned 65 today so I think I’m old enough (not sure about mature) to remember the 1977 events and I believe you’re correct about a big snow that winter. I hope Eastern KY doesn’t see a repeat of that.
I hope everyone is staying warm. MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!
Happy Birthday Dottie and many more !!!
Happy Birthday Dottie
Yes I remember that back in 77 also the brutal 78 winter we endured
I’ll never forget those Winters as I was trying to keep my greenhouses going and my nursery plants alive.
Crystal, I remember that flood back in 1977. I was in Indiana at that time and heard about it on broadcast news. We had lots of Snow in January through March and many nights below zero
My sister lives in Indiana she got I think 3 to 6 inches the other day. She says she can never get use to the wind but she dresses in layers.
