Good Sunday, everyone. We continue to have track a powerful cold front across the state today and it’s bringing strong storms and colder air. This battle is the opening act to a much bigger fight between spring and a late season surge of winter temps late next week and weekend.

The day starts with a weakening line of thunderstorms moving east across the state. As the front moves into the eastern half of the state, expect this line to refire by the afternoon and some of those storms may be strong. There’s a low-end risk for a few severe storms within this line.

The Storm Prediction Center has this low risk for the east today…

Temps crash behind this front and may reach the upper 40s and low 50s for many during the afternoon hours. That wind will have a bite to it!

With the low spinning across the Great Lakes, it’s likely to bring widespread rain and snows to that region. A few showers of rain or snow may drop deeper into the Ohio Valley late tonight and Monday.

The future radar from the HRRR even shows some of this getting into the northern half of Kentucky…

Ugh is all I can say about that.

Temps for Monday will be much colder in the north and northeast. Highs there may stay in the upper 40s for some. Farther south and west, the numbers will be much milder with some sun. Highs reach the 60s in the far west and south.

Tuesday starts frosty and ends pretty good as temps climb. That temp climb continues for Wednesday and Thursday with an 80 possible ahead of another potent storm system. This has the potential to bring severe storms into our region Thursday night and Friday…

You can also see the cold air crashing in behind that system with some rain and snow showers into the Great Lakes and, perhaps, the Ohio Valley.

This looks even colder than the system we are dealing with right now. Look at how far below normal the numbers from the EURO are…

That’s part of what looks like a really cold close to the month of April. Check out the GFS Ensembles average departures for the final 10 days of April…

Warm temps in winter and cold temps in spring are the absolute worst!!! 🤬🤬

I will throw you another update later today, so check back. Until then, here are your Sunday storm tracking toys…
