Good Friday, everybody. We are ending the week with a scattering of showers and thunderstorms and that threat looks to continue into the weekend. Scattered is the key word here. As we look toward Kentucky Derby week, we find a cold blast of air to start the week with some question marks to end it.
Low pressure is rolling through the region today and is bringing just a scattered shower or thunderstorm. The greatest risk for a few storms is across the eastern half of the state and there’s the chance for a strong storm or two, but the Storm Prediction Center has the low-end threat for severe storms just to the east…
Most of the day features a mix of sun and clouds with temps in the 65-70 degree range.
Here are your radars to follow along…
Saturday looks similar to today with 65-70 in many areas under a mix of sun and clouds. There’s still the slight chance for a shower or storm going up.
A cold front is on track to crash in here later Sunday with another batch of scattered showers and storms. The greatest rain chance is across the east.
Cold weather then pours in with a frost threat early next week. It’s going to be interesting to see if chilly showers can drop in from the northwest during this time.
The question marks for the second half of Kentucky Derby week are there and may not be answered for a few more days. Much of that depends on just how long the upper level low hangs around early in the week.
The latest EURO is getting rid of that much faster and allows for another low to roll in here from the west later in the week. This scenario would bring some showers and storms in here late Thursday into Kentucky Oaks Day with better weather by Derby Day…
Now, there’s zero chance I’m ready to commit to that scenario, but the temps would work out for the Derby…
Most other models are much chillier for Kentucky Derby weekend and that includes the various ensembles. They keep the chill going into the first half of week two of the month, but they are trying to turn it around with a developing ridge later in that week…

Give me warmth or give me nothing! 😎
Have a fantastic Friday and take care.
#TeamBlowtorch 😉
Warmer weather Jeff, but not a Blowtorch Summer I hope.
Thanks Chris. According to the Mesonet, Maple only received 0.19 inches of rain. Not a good soaking rain as locally forecasted. Almost all areas of the state received a good amount of rain though. I’ve given up on rainfall and Winter Snowfalls in my area. Just not going to happen.
We had a couple of short downpours didn’t last to long though.
