Good Saturday and welcome to the last weekend of April. Enjoy your day because another blast of ugly spring chill is about to blast into the Bluegrass state for a while. This chill brings another frost threat for early May as we turn our attention toward a storm threat for Kentucky Derby weekend.

Let’s kick things off with what’s going on out there today.

Temps reach the 60s today with a mix of sun and clouds and a scattered shower or thunderstorm going up. Whatever is out there looks fairly scattered, but whatever’s out there will show up on your friendly radars…

Colder winds crash in quickly on Sunday with a broken line of showers and thunderstorms. This happens as the massive upper low moves into the eastern half of the county and sets up shop for much of the week ahead.

A few chilly showers may drop in here from the north and northwest in the coming days. Watch this massive spin…

You see all the blue showing up on that animation? That’s some early May snows showing up in the Great Lakes and northeast, but there’s a real chance for snow to fly as close by as the West Virginia mountains…

That’s just absurd, folks.

For us, this whole system brings us an increasing potential for a few frosty mornings next week. It also means our days are pretty darn chilly and generally in the 50s from Sunday through Tuesday…

Temps rebound a bit by the end of the week ahead of the next system. This looks to impact our Kentucky Derby Weekend, but the exact extent of that impact remains to be seen. The GFS is showing a slower moving storm that keeps rain chances on and off through the entire weekend…

The EURO is a little faster with this moving through and clears the area by Derby Day…

Here’s hoping for the faster mover, but both models show more chilly air pouring back into the area.

Make it a great day and take care.
