Good Sunday evening. 5 days in a row with widespread snow showers, squalls and flurries have your friendly weatherdude doing everything he can to get some spring air in here. I am seeing a few days of it, but it looks to be sandwiched between more rounds of winter.
A storm system Tuesday into Wednesday continues to look the same as what I was rambling about with my earlier post. One weak low works into the region on Tuesday with a stronger low taking over across the Carolinas Tuesday night and Wednesday. That’s when a swath of snow will be likely around here.
Some accumulating snow will be possible during this time. Here’s hoping the heaviest stays to our north and east.
That storm will pull away by Thursday as thermometers begin to warm. Readings will hit the 60s by the weekend. That’s the good news. The bad news… another big push of cold air dives in the following week and that will likely bring more flakes our way.
See you guys later tonight. Take care.
“Some accumulating snow will be possible during this time. Hereโs hoping the heaviest stays to our north and east.”
Not that we probably do not have to worry about that happening (always does), but jeepers. CB is better than the Darkside. Stay in the light side, CB! ๐
Is CB just ready for spring or has all the negative comments posted by certain people finally getting to him? I’ve noticed his posts have been short and sweet over the past few days even with a major winter storm developing very close to Kentucky.
for us folks that actually like snow lets hope it hits us square in the mouth ๐
…and knocks us over the porch like my terrier did to me last month, breaking my arm & splitting my head open! Now, THAT would be a SNOWSTORM!!!!! ๐ I’m not ready to give up yet, Andy! ๐
Agree, Chris we no better than that, the hopefully the heaviest stays north?????
Ironically, (for Lexington) February was colder that January and the highest temperature in January was 67ยฐ and the highest temp in February was 63ยฐ. The lowest temperature in Jan. was 10ยฐ and for Feb. was 5ยฐ. The average temperature in Jan was 35.6 (2.7ยฐ above normal) and Feb. was 35.1 (-1.8 below normal.) So far the first two days of March are running -9.2ยฐ below normal with average temperature of 31.8.Source NWS:ย http://www.nws.noaa.gov/climate/index.php?wfo=lmk

Oh come on, one more big one would be nice! We had our biggest snow Sat. morning, about 2 inches. It was beautiful in the trees! Thank you very much Chris! You are very appreciated.
Mr. Bailey mentioned the “S” word again in this post…..The much forecast, but seldom seen Swath has been spotted in the upcoming forecast verbiage. In fact, the only time the Swath has made an appearance in Ky. this year was in Mr. Bailey’s forecasts.
I’m just sayin’.
Come up with something original to say besides making fun of Chris for saying “swath”. Just sayin’. ๐
Chris:
Why such a hater on March snow? In the past seventeen years, three of the four greatest snows I’ve seen were in March. I say BRING IT ON!
Agree, Big March snows have saved a lot of winters for snow lovers!
Catch is there is at least a five degree warmer gap from those events. This could be mainly rain with a touch of snow, or snow that mostly melts as fast as falls for a lot of areas.
Unless the expected temps lower on average by about five degrees, going to be slush and puddles.
Hello Mr. Bailey! Will any night this week be good for comet viewing? Any clear skies at all?
No, Winter you had since November to supply us with snow and have failed miserably. You had your chance, come back when you decide to give us no less than 6-8 inches.
As a winter lover, even I’m ready to see Spring, time to revv up that pollen allergies.
The long range outlooks 6 to 10 and 8 to 14 have all changed to colder looks now, so much for the warm march they all harped on just a week ago??
Why should Chris waste his time to post more than he did? When he has given us the possibilities and outlooks, he was met with nothing but negative comments.
Negative comments are not made toward Chris. He is the best. All the negative comments I see are towards the actual weather and the trends that the weather has for Kentucky. Chris has a full time job as a Met and does this blog on his own spare time. I am sure he would not waste his time if he thought that all this blog brings is negative comments towards him. He is smarter than that. Now I wish he could just make it snow. Man what is wrong with that man????
Well, some of the negative comments that have been posted before were directed toward Chris. And, I understand everyone’s frustration that we keep getting missed by storms, but some have “shot the messenger”. I agree that if he controlled the weather, we would all be happy little campers ๐ Weather will be what it will be. Nothing we can do about it except enjoy the ride, or not
Chris, thank you for taking the time to do this blog. No matter what you post, especially in winter, someone is not happy. While I have been sorry that we have had a snowless winter, I know that you only put what you see here, good or bad. You don’t make the weather, but only tell us what looks to happen. Now that being said, IF this storm brings a big snow, well that is fine. But if it doesn’t, that is fine, too. I am to the point where it doesn’t matter to me. Either way, your blog is where I go every day to get the most accurate, up to date weather info. Thanks for all you do. Have a great evening, all.
Well said ๐
I second that!!!!
I’ve had a six pack riding on at least a 5″ snow before Winter is finished… here’s hoping!!!
We need a snow map please. Thanks for the updates.
I know if chris could make weather, he ould make spring in march and nice tempd, minus the really horible strong storms like that hit ky area last march 2nd . You could tell the heartache he had watching west liberty getting destroyed, hoping everyone took his and several other weather guy’s warnings serious and went to a safe place. He would slso give us snow in jan and feb instead of cold rain. Maybe even give the oned who don’t like snow a all rain event so he could please everyone. We are blessed to have chris givr us his thoughts about upcoming weather events, be they good or bad.
I guess my disappointment in all of this is that December, January, and February were duds, and for some reason March wants to prolong the misery.
wow…..did anyone see the Euro? Could it really be?
Where can we see the ECMWF snowfall projections?
At least the SPC has the chances for severe weather as pretty low for the foreseeable future (although there are predictions for a very active spring for our area).
While I get a charge over the dynamics of severe wx coming together, nobody wants threats to life and property, especially after us marking the grim anniversary of March 2 2012.
