Good evening, folks. We are putting the wraps on an absolutely wonderful weekend of weather across Kentucky and this nice stuff rolls into much of the week ahead. Changes start to show up by Friday and those changes lead us back into a wintertime pattern for the middle and end of the month.

Let’s talk about those changes right out of the gate.

A cold front sweeps into the region Friday with gusty showers and a few thunderstorms. A wave of low pressure may develop along the boundary with lingering showers into Saturday…

A much bigger storm system then develops to our southwest and works in here by late in the weekend and early next week. This is the one that brings winter back to our region. It will be interesting to watch the track on this storm as I don’t think the models will handle this very well until later in the week.

The EURO seems to be the best current solution among the models…

Watch how the EURO unlocks the cold behind that and takes it into Valentine’s Day…

This kicks off a pattern of much colder than normal temps across the eastern half of the country and the Ensembles are picking up on this very well…

GFS ENSEMBLES

CANADIAN ENSEMBLES

You can clearly see how that big ridge of warmth now across Canada and the northern part of the US pushes all the way toward Greenland and gets stuck there. That’s one part of the blocking going up through the rest of February and, likely, into early March.

I’ll see you guys back here later tonight. Until then, have a great rest of your Sunday and take care.
