Good evening everyone. Rain and snow have been rolling across the state today as low pressure pulls off to our northeast. Winds have been whipping up and now we get set for snow showers and flurries to kick in. Let’s break it down…
– Snow showers and flurries will increase this evening across central and eastern Kentucky as a disturbance drops in from the northwest. This will put down a coating in some areas with the potential for up to an inch for any area getting in on a heavier snow shower.
– Temps drop into the mid and upper 20s late tonight and this will cause some slick spots to develop on roads.
– Morning Flurries will give way to some afternoon sun and highs in the 30s for Wednesday.

We can now add Lexington to the list of record breaking rains. 2011 surged past 1935 to claim the title of Wetttest Year On Record!! #WERENUMBERONE
Where do we go from here? All models not named the GFS continue to point to a major buckle in the jet stream early next week. This would bring a serious shot of winter to the eastern half of the country. The European Model…
The model goes on to then produce an extreme look with a mega cutoff low on top of us with a powerhouse storm in the mid atlantic…
The model has shown this exact same solution for the past several runs and has the Canadian Model playing the role of wing man…
That would be a heck of a way to kick off 2012! Both of those models then show another cutoff and storm for the end of next week. We have several days to see how all this plays out.
On a shorter term note… that same European is showing some rain and snow showers to begin the last day of the year…
Have a great evening and take care.

could we finally have something real to track? Time will tell, not going to start holding my breath yet!
It would be awesome to get a power house storm in here, as long as its snow!!
Go ahead an exhale chances of this scenario coming to fruition is less than 50%.
If only that MEGA storm that the 18z gfs was showing would pan out…man…oh…man…what a snowlovers dream come true…from new orleans to Maine!!..
the eastern usa is due a 1993 type superstorm
At my house in Lawrenceburg, which is exactly 18 miles due west of Bluegrass Airport, has recorded 71.02 inches of rain so far this year, and that is missing a big chunk of August following a lightning strike that took down my weather station! Moral of the story: the official obs for LEX are screwed up, both precip. and temp.
Someone tell me is this rain in south west KY our snow shower chance missing us to the south?? Chris?? Anyone??
Talk about stubborn RAIN…its still raining here in extreme southeast ky..I havent seen the first flake yet today…
I say lets talk Superstorm..megastorm..and several guys are talking the talk…will it walk the walk…time will tell…
yeah, i agree, if we could only get another “superstorm” Like that !! IT WOULD BE SWWEEEET !!! IF bubba got a foot or two of snow in his yard, we’d have to dial 911 for him his poor discouraged winter weather heart could’nt take it…lol..
Rolo, would be making shine slushies..lol
chas, would be looking for Cantore to show up at her house…lol..
we all would have to go to coffeelady’s house for COFFEE..lol..
wxman, would be doing backflips.
we’d have to dig vinny out!
Chris Bailey would be making snow angels in his speedos !!!!!!!!!!…LOL..
BlizzardTim…would be putting sled runners on the ARK!!…lol…
We would have our old schooler if that 18z GFS played out. The surface temps are below freezing this time with a heck of a lot of precip. I know it’s about 10 days out, but lets keep an eye on it. I know Chris will.
That is one scary looking storm; as Chris has mentioned, we seem to be in a time of extremes, so, that type of storm, although a freak of nature, would not be that surprising
I think a good size snowstorm is possible soon maybe next week maybe not but the NAO is starting to change slightly toward neutral and next week it looks to go negative an if that happens then lookout!!!!
Noooo, Tim! If Cantore showed up, we’d be guaranteed an ice storm. Don’t want to hurt our chances anymore than this current pattern already has. 😉
This is funny, especially the bailey one. Although, he’s right if Cantore shows up then it would likely be because of an ice storm!!!
At this point I’d almost settle for an ICE STORM!! at least it would be winter weather lol
Ain’t gonna happen guys. This time next week, it will be more cold rain. All bark, no bite. Snowless winter will live on
Ok Chris where are these widespread snow showers you forecasted a few hours ago. Your words not mine, just wondering if those are still a possibility tonight???
Can’t really blame CB, most of the mets are struggling with their winter predictions. The models have been garbage. AO and NAO remain positive. Knowing our luck, spring will be cold and nasty until May
I just read that the NAO is trending negative by early next week…and likely goes negative in about 8-10 days. Hang on, snow a-comin.. 🙂
I can FEEL it. “Something wicked this ways comes…” Bring it on!
