Happy Kentucky Derby Day. Heavy rain continues to push eastward across the commonwealth on this big day. That trend will continue for the next few days and this may set the stage for some high water issues. A FLOOD WATCH is out through Sunday for much of south central Kentucky.

Let’s set the stage with the headlines…

– Heavy rain will engulf the western half of the state today. The rain will be slow to work into central and eastern Kentucky during the afternoon and evening hours.

– I expect the steady rain to arrive at Churchill Downs by early afternoon and continue through the run for the roses.

– Temps today will range from the 40s in parts of the west to the upper 60s in the east.

– Heavy rain will become more of a threat later tonight into Sunday. A widespread 1″-3″ of rainfall is likely through Monday. Locally higher amounts are possible… especially across south central sections. That’s an area that was hammered by several inches of rain last weekend… hence the current flood watch.

– Some areas outside of the watch may experience high water before the weekend wraps up.

– Temps for Sunday and Monday look to stay in the 50s for highs for a lot of the region.

– This system will finally leave us alone by later Tuesday and that will set us up for much warmer air for the middle and end of next week.

– This stormy and wet pattern shows no signs of letting up in the coming weeks.
