Good Sunday to one and all. The slow moving river of rain has parked itself across the commonwealth of Kentucky and this may cause some high water issues before the day is through. Heavy rain continues to fall out there today and that is likely to stick around into the start of the new week.
The rain totals for Saturday were impressive across central and western parts of the state. Take a look at the Derby Day numbers from the Kentucky Mesonet stations…
The models suggest we are in for more of the same today with the axis of the rain train focused a bit farther east. The NAM is bullish on another 1″-3″ of rain falling through Monday…
That may bring weekend rain totals to 3″ or 4″ for parts of the region. The long duration of the rain may preclude any widespread flooding, but local high water issues are certainly a strong possibility through Monday. Keep an eye on those creeks and streams.
This system will finally begin to leave us alone by later Tuesday and that will set us up for the return of the 70s for the middle and end of the week. Humidity levels will also rise and we should go into a pattern conducive for showers and thunderstorms to fire up for the end of the week into the weekend.
At this point.. we are setting ourselves up for one heck of green summer! Maybe the sprinklers can gather some dust in the garage. 😉
The European Model continues to show the potential for another cold air outbreak for the week of the 13th. The Saturday run of the model went to the extreme with the cold…
No matter if it works out or not… that is flat our absurd to see any computer model showing that much cold in the middle of May. Extreme continues to be the weather word until further notice.
Make it a great Sunday and take care.
I like our pattern. It gets nice and warm, then storms followed by cool days and back warm with rain and sunny days in between. We’re not getting much severe weather either, hopefully this summer turns to be warm and wet (not too wet), not HOT nor a drought either.
Yup nice pattern garden is really coming to life now
Chris, thanks for the update. The thing I worry about is with all the wet, the mosquito population could literally explode. I don’t mind the weather not being so hot but I sure would like to get more than two or three days of sunshine and dry weather in a row. It seems to be just the opposite, with 3-4 days of cold rain, with a day of sunshine thrown in once in a while. And I hope the EURO is wrong about the cold air. Time for that stuff to stay north for a bit! Have a great Sunday, everyone.
At the rate we’re going Kentucky is going to see hardly any severe weather period in 2013. NOt that anybody who still posts on here is complaining…
Yes, it’s been noticeably absent. After last year, we need the break.
I bet that severe weather shows up in a week or two and last through July…
