Good Friday to one and all. Showers and thunderstorms will increase as we roll through this final day of the week. That will then give way to better looking sky over the weekend. While the sky looks better… the temps will be going in the other direction with the possibility of frost and record cold.
Cold front number one will slowly work across the region today and this will touch off showers and thunderstorms. It won’t rain all day, but it will come down at a good clip and some spots may pick up another inch of rain.
Can we get some strong or severe storms? It’s a possibility, but I’m not expecting much in the way of widespread severe weather. To be safe, I have you set up to track the boomers.
This front will slide through here later tonight into early Saturday and that will bring gusty winds and cooler air in here. Skies for Saturday will be partly sunny with an isolated shower or thunderstorm possible. Temps will be in the 60s.
The second front arrives Saturday evening and will send our temps tumbling into the upper 30s and low 40s for Sunday morning. Patchy frost can’t be ruled out in the north.
Our Mother’s Day will feature windy and cool temps with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s. Sunday night is when things may take a historic turn. Temps dive into the low and mid 30s and that should mean some frost.
The GFS says we have three straight mornings with temps below 40 degrees in parts of the state…
A big warm up will then surge in for the middle of next week with temps hitting the middle 80s. Is this a case of us going straight into summer? That’s doubtful and we should see another shot of cool later in the month.
Have a great Friday and take care.
That kind of cool air relative to normal may actually send our monthly average below normal. So far May is 2.7 degrees above normal in Lexington–though mainly due to the clouds producing mild overnight lows. Normal highs for this time of year are in the low 70’s and lows in the low 50’s.
T-shower in progress here in Nashville. Moderately heavy rain with lightning. From the radar, same story in western parts of KY/TN. Looks like Louisville, Lexington, Knoxville are next, so have the umbrellas ready!
Another rainy start to a day, imagine that? NOAA in there morning discussion says Monday morning frost chance looks slight because of clouds coming in with cold, also says that Monday should be the coolest weather until fall, I hope so??
I would think that might be right, but as recently as 2009 we had a day in Early June with a high in the Upper 50’s.
boy we just had a bad storm roll thru here, Heavy rain, high wind, thunder/lightening and some small hail! Scanner is going crazy with downed trees and power lines,
Cut it out with the shots of cold air, Chris. Seriously.
