Good Wednesday, everyone. Showers and storms are rumbling across parts of Kentucky today as a cold front sweeps in from the west. This will slow down and keep some showers and storms going through Thursday with a bigger system for the weekend.
This is all part of the active setup I’ve been talking about for a while now. Today’s showers and storms dump very heavy rains and could be a big strong early this morning across parts of central and western Kentucky.
Farther east and southeast, much drier weather will be noted with just some late day scattered stuff.
Here are your tracking tools…
As mentioned, the front stalls and that allows for a few more waves of showers and storms to rumble across parts of the state tonight into Thursday. Pockets of heavy rain will continue to be noted.
Hurricane Rafael is ready to slam into western Cuba later today as it heads toward the northwest and into the Gulf of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center continues to forecast some weakening of this system as it nears the Louisiana coast this weekend…
With a slower movement in the Gulf, the system coming in from the Plains probably won’t pick this thing up as it moves through here. This system brings showers and storms through the region later Saturday into Sunday with another system set to follow that up a few days later.
Here’s the GFS…
And the Canadian…
The EURO…
There will be some brief cooldowns behind each of these systems, but the pattern is skewed above normal. It’s a pattern that has a chance to deliver one of the warmest Novembers on record for a lot of the country… Including Kentucky.
Have a wonderful Wednesday and take care.
Thanks Chris. I don’t mine if the rest of this Fall and Winter is above normal. I don’t mine because of the very low heating bills this Winter. What really worries me is the extreme dryness in my area. This morning’s radar shows a line of rain ( mostly virga ) on the southern end of a line of showers ( my area of the state. ) I’ll say it agin for the last time on your Blog, that our precipitation pattern Will Not change until we get more fluctuation in the Pacific Decadal Oscillation between positive and negative.
Hurricane Rafael may now cause problems for the western gulf coast. Agin we shall see. On another subject is the plant’s dormancy. If we remain in the well above normal temperatures fluctuation through the Winter, the plant life will be confused as to whether it’s Spring, Fall or Winter. My Catawba Rhododendron now thinks it’s Spring, as it is blooming and beginning to show signs of new growth. I grew these plants and sold them when I had my Nursery and never had this occur in any Fall.
Those that received the soaking rains, have a Great and Safe Day !
I expect we’ll see plenty of rain this weekend since it’s the opening of deer season.
Dottie, we had about 0.03 ” in the form of very puny showers. I don’t know about anymore rain this weekend. It’s too early to predict. Precipitation of any kind is too hard to predict anymore. We been seeing a lot of Deer here. My Brother is planning on going hunting this weekend.
