Good afternoon, everyone. It’s a dreary but mild day across Kentucky as we get set for a big change blowing in late Tuesday and Wednesday. That’s when another blast of winter weather blows across the Bluegrass State with a light snowfall likely for some.
My overall thoughts on this setup really haven’t changed as most of the models are now showing something similar to my light snowfall risk map I made Sunday…
Some of the models are a bit west with the better snows compared to that map, but we still have a few that are wimpy and east. Given that, I’m holding off for a First Call For Snowfall map until later today.
The Canadian family continues to be the most consistent of all the models in what they’re showing with this setup.
Here’s the Canadian showing snow developing on top of central and eastern Kentucky very late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning…
The Canadian Snowfall map is highlighting central Kentucky with the best accumulations…
The Short Range Canadian Model is similar…
The GFS is slowly heading toward the Canadian Models but is still just a bit east…
That puts the best snow accumulations in the east and southeast…
The GFS Ensembles agree with the op run…
The farthest west and strongest with this system is the HRRR. The future radar from the HRRR shows a quick-hitting snow band that impacts the entire state. This animation goes from 8pm Tuesday to 8am Wednesday…
The pattern after this is one that should be milder overall, but the signals are cooling as we get closer. Even the GFS is bringing multiple systems across the region from this weekend into next week. That could mean some rain to snow setups with back and forth temps…
I will have another update later today, so check back. Here are your Kentucky Weather Radars to keep you company until we hit that magical moment…
Have a great rest of your day and take care.
