Good afternoon, everyone. It’s a REALLY ugly weather day across Kentucky with a ton of rain and colder winds blowing back in. These colder winds will usher in winter weather over the next several days.
My time is short, but I’m here to give you a quick rundown on the increasing threat for light snows.
The first flakes show up later tonight and early Thursday as our cold wind kicks in. This northwest flow will have a clipper riding along it on Friday and that means we will see a swath of light snow developing across central and eastern Kentucky. Snow showers and flurries will then kick in behind it Friday night and Saturday.
The Canadian Model has been gold this winter and has been leading the way with the late week potential. If anything, we are seeing the models becoming more jazzed up about the snow chances.
Here’s the Short Range Canadian…

Both of those runs are a little more amped up with a light snowfall…
They have a friend in the NAM…
The GFS continues to struggle to find much, but will join everything else tonight or Thursday…
There’s a chance for this setup to hit advisory levels, especially in eastern Kentucky.
In addition to the snow, Friday is a wicked day with winds and temps combining to push wind chills deep into the teens at times…
I’ll have another update later today and will have the latest on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm. Until we meet again, I have you all set to track the rain out of town and the winter pattern back into town…
Make it a great afternoon and take care.
