Good afternoon, everyone. It’s a seasonably cold day across Kentucky as we await the arrival of a light snow maker to start the weekend before Christmas. This will likely cause a few travel issues late Friday into Friday night.
In the overall scheme of things, I have no changes to how this looks to play out.
Let’s hit the headlines:
- This system dives in from northwest to southeast Friday into Friday night.
- The main area of impact is across central and eastern Kentucky.
- Light snow pushes in quickly Friday morning and may be introduced by a quick-hitting band of rain showers.
- Light snow takes control by Friday afternoon and continue into the evening.
- From there, a strong northwest flow touches off snow showers and flurries Friday night into Saturday.
- Light accumulations are a good bet across central and eastern Kentucky.
I’m rolling with the First Call for Snowfall…
The latest models continue to support this forecast, especially the Canadian Models and GFS…
Short Range Canadian
Canadian
GFS
It’s interesting to note that all three models are hitting the snows a little harder in northern and east central Kentucky and leaving a donut hole of lighter stuff across northeastern Kentucky…
CANADIAN
The NAM fam is also seeing this…
I suspect the models are seeing a pocket of slightly warmer temps in that area, meaning showers don’t change to snow as fast. That’s a microclimate impact I’ve seen before in that area.
I will have a New Call For Snowfall on WKYT-TV starting at 4pm and here on KWC later this evening.
Make it a good one and take care.
