Good Thursday and welcome to a thundering day across the commonwealth. Rounds of showers and thunderstorms will continue to roll across the state and put down some very heavy rainfall. The good news is that we look to clean things out for the upcoming weekend.
The boomers today will put down a lot of rain in a short amount of time. That may cause some local high water issues for areas that get in on repeat action. These storms will also have a lot of lightning with them. That’s the weather version of LOL to the younger generation. 😉
Here’s regional radar to track the boomers…
For the past few weeks, we’ve talked about the potential for early June tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico. Say hello to Tropical Storm Andrea…

That system will roll up the east coast as the week wears on and the European Model has been all over it. It continues to be a little to the left of the other models with the track…
Cooler and drier air will sweep in here as that system pulls away from the region. That should set us up for a nice second half to Saturday into early Sunday. There are indications we could get a few storms to return by late Sunday into Monday.
The pattern next week will feature the heat staying to our west with another big shot of cool to our northeast…![]()
Could that set us up for some northwest to southeast moving clusters of storms? We shall see,
Have a great day and take care.

My yard needs rain very badly. I don’t like seeing all the rain disappear off the radar as it approaches Bourbon County. For those who are getting the downpours, feel free to send them my way. 🙂
Thanks, Chris. Appreciate the radar so that we can keep up with where the rain is. Won’t be upset to have a nice weekend. Still say we may pay for all this nice weather later, but, I will take it for now. Anyway, the norm is not for it to be 90 degrees in June, is it? We have had such ABnormal weather the past few years it is hard to remember what actually IS normal. 😉 “Have a great Thursday, everyone. (for those of you who do not have to work Saturday, Happy Friday Eve!) 😉
Nice little rain this morning in east Frankfort, badly needed, sun has popped out now, hopefully a little more rain this afternoon?
No rain in northern Estill County, but it’s sure needed. We DON’T need it tomorrow though because it’s our Relay For Life event and walking in the rain isn’t a whole lot of fun. Any chances it’ll all be over with today and we don’t have to worry tomorrow?
Anyone else needing some rain? This is what happens with scattered storms–some get it and some don’t.
.40 in my backyard this morning in Frankfort, feel lucky to have got that, this pattern of underachieving rain systems has me wondering if drought conditions will show up in the next few weeks??
I am starting to believe so, at least in areas that have not received the scattered storms. My yard is beginning to turn brown in spots, as hard as that is to believe. It seems like the past three summers (2010, 2011, and 2012) the drought has really set in towards the middle to late part of June, and then the real heat came in afterwards.
It was hot now last year compared to this, but got even hotter later last year 😉
Looks like the same pattern of misses as the snow. Models broke? Not just CB, but all mets seems to have expected more today. Made sense too. Tomorrow will be the litmus for trend (to me anyway).
Looks like the same trend as last year, minus the heat. Big systems looking to soak the state are scattered and scarce. Looks like a trend could be developing. If we miss the torrential rain tomorrow, it seems it is. Today seems an overall miss for he expected rain so far for much of the state. Lots of clouds though.
Is Andrea sucking away all our rain? I thought Kentucky was looking at inches of rain over the Wed/Thu/Fri period. So far .40 in my part of Bourbon County.
Very little severe weather is also odd. I can’t remember the last squall line that held together. February maybe?
I suspect that Chris will address the rain/storm event that failed to be. Its all good.
