Good evening, everyone. Our major winter storm continues across Kentucky and it has a lot left in the tank. We continue to see significant amounts of snow and ice impacting the weather across the Commonwealth.

Snowfall has been the big story of the day with many areas within the 4″-8″ range so far. Northern Kentucky may push 10″ with this initial band of heavy snow and then add to that later tonight and Monday.

The Ice Storm is now cranking along the Interstate 64 corridor and just south. Freezing rain accumulations are adding up and we are likely to see some big problems developing tonight with thunder and lightning being part of this storm.

A Winter Storm Warning is out for much of Kentucky…

Here’s the updating map showing the warnings for the entire region…

Here’s a brief breakdown of what happens now…

Here’s how the map looks for tonight…

The map for Monday finds snow and wind taking over…

Monday has the potential to overachieve as the upper low spins through here. A general 1″-3″ of snow will be likely with the chance for higher amounts. Winds will whip the snow around, creating whiteout conditions at times.

All of this will be falling on top of several inches of snow that’s caked in significant ice.

Bitterly cold temps follow this with another winter storm POSSIBLE by Friday and Saturday.

I will be on WKYT NEWS on the CW LEXINGTON at 6pm then 10pm and on WKYT at 11.  I’ll also drop by for a few KWC updates.

Until then, I have your tracking tools including our Kentucky Weather Cams to watch the flakes flying across different parts of the state…

Have a great Sunday and take care.
