Good afternoon, everyone. Our latest winter storm is now behind us, but this harsh winter pattern isn’t going anywhere. The setup for the week ahead features a couple of light snow chances that usher in bitterly cold temps. Beyond that, things can take another walk on the winter wild side.
The first arctic clipper arrives Sunday night and Monday with a round of light snow. A second follows later Tuesday and early Wednesday with a better chance for a widespread light snowfall. A third has a chance to impact us by late Thursday.
You can see all these showing up on the GFS…
Temps crash behind this first front and, if skies clear, temps can hit zero or below by Tuesday morning. The EURO is all in…
Wind chills behind this first boundary are brutal. This animation shows the wind chill forecast from 1pm Monday through 7am Tuesday…
The EURO keeps the below zero temps going Wednesday and Thursday mornings…
It also keeps some absolutely wicked wind chills. This animation takes us from Wednesday morning through Thursday morning…
Temps briefly spike by Friday and Saturday and it may even RAIN. This is ahead of another massive and harsh winter setup that will likely feature winter storm threats and bitterly cold temps.
An arctic boundary slides through here late next weekend and likely slows down to our east. That will allow for storm systems to roll along this boundary, throwing winter weather behind it into Kentucky. I look at the overall setup and I can see shades of February 21 with this, but that doesn’t mean it produces the exact same kind of winter storms.
The models all have strong signals during this time…

The GFS signal is going to be too far to the southeast, but if you know that’s the bias of the model, you know it’s a good signal for our region…
Temp anomalies during this time are crazy cold with the EURO going absolutely bonkers with the cold. Look how far below normal these numbers are…
