Good evening, everyone. We are putting the wraps on a brutally cold day across Kentucky and surrounding areas. This is part of one of the worst winter patterns you’re ever going to find across our part of the world.
How cold was it this morning? Pretty darn cold…
It was an absolutely brutal start to the day across the Commonwealth. Wind chills bottomed out close to -20 in some areas with actual lows well below zero.

Tonight won’t be nearly as cold as clouds thicken ahead of a light snow maker arriving by Thursday afternoon and evening. Some light accumulations will show up across central and eastern Kentucky during this time.’
The Short Range Canadian shows some streaks of greater than a half inch…
The Hi Res NAM shows similar streaks…
That may cause some slick spots to develop as this quick-hitting light snow sweeps through here.
Another shot of cold air comes in behind this, but this won’t be nearly as cold as what we just had. Still, the chance for wind chills to be near zero will be with us from Friday morning through Saturday morning…
Temps behind this will climb as we head into the weekend with some melting finally taking place. It’s looking more and more like the Sunday snow potential won’t work out as the system stays to our south.
That means temps really jump early next week ahead of another active setup. The EURO is showing the active pattern I envision setting up for February. This is what it shows to close January and into the first few days of February. Watch this active storm track through our region…
Get ready for a lot of precipitation for the second month of the year, folks.
Enjoy the rest of your Wednesday and take care.
