Good Wednesday to one and all. It’s another bitterly cold day across Kentucky, but we are slowly coming out of this brutal stretch of winter weather. While the extreme cold eases, we will continue to see a much colder than normal setup with a few snow chances sneaking back in.

Temps this morning are well below zero in many areas with some areas that can reach -15, making this the coldest morning in nearly a decade. Wind chill temps average -5 to -20 this morning and that’s well into the danger zone.

Temps do recover through the day with readings into the upper teens to low 20s for many, gusty winds will make it feel much colder.

Wind chills tonight can still drop to near zero or a touch below in some areas. This wind chill animation starts at 7 this evening and goes through 7am Thursday…

A weak system moves across the area Thursday into early Friday and can spit out pockets of light snow and flurries…

This brings in another round of very cold air, but it’s not to the levels we are currently seeing. Wind chills may approach zero Friday morning then again Saturday morning.

We need to watch for the possibility of a southern system that can bring some snow across the region later Sunday and Monday. This isn’t a given, but it’s something that could try to show up in this kind of pattern.

The GFS sees it and that has me worried this is the kiss of death for any possible snow…

The Canadian hasn’t been too interested in the Sunday/Monday potential, but it’s been keying on a system behind that for the closing days of the month. It has another big push of very cold air coming along for the ride…

Looking farther down the weather road into February, I’ve made it known I think we are in line for another very active weather month. Unlike January, this one has the potential to bring heavy rain, heavy snows and severe storms into our region, depending on individual storm tracks.

The latest EURO weeklies continue to show February temps averaging slightly below normal for our area…

The Euro Weeklies are also seeing the snow threats…

Regardless of rain or snow, or both, I think February brings a lot of precipitation to our part of the world.

On a different note, if you guys are so inclined to vote on such things, vote early and vote often…

I’ll have updates later in the day. Make it a good one and take care.
