Good evening, folks. Today was a true springtime feeling day in the Commonwealth with record highs falling in some locations. Now we get into a back and forth temperature pattern that will lead to a lot of rain that could bring high water issues. This will be followed by winter weather.
Temps come way down Tuesday and Wednesday before shooting back up ahead of the first storm system bringing showers and thunderstorms in here late Wednesday into Thursday. That will be followed up by another heavy rain and thunderstorm maker from Friday night through Saturday night.
Both of these combined will bring a general 1″-3″ of rain with locally higher amounts. That leads to an increased threat for flooding for much of central and eastern Kentucky…
The models are showing more and more rain as we get closer…
Here’s a look at both systems on the EURO…
The pattern behind this is still VERY active with the storm track likely focusing just to our south and southeast. That would put our region in the line of fire for more in the way of winter weather and the WPC is highlighting this area for the risk of heavy snow…
Again, the models are going to change a lot with the storm tracks and subsequent precipitation types and amounts.
Here’s the EURO from early next week to early the following week…
The GFS had a rough January in figuring out winter weather and storm tracks, so we have to keep that in mind with anything it shows. Right now, the GFS is the farthest north and west with these systems…
If the GFS is the blind squirrel finding a nut, then we are going to be floating next week.
The Canadian doesn’t go out as far as the EURO or GFS but it does show the potential winter weather maker early next week…
Enjoy the rest of the evening and take care.
