Good evening, everyone. Our weather is about to take a walk on the wild side for the next few days as March starts to do March things. This means we everything from strong storms to some snow will impact our weather the next few days.

The breakdown of this system remains unchanged…

  • Temps surge into the 60s on a strong southwest wind on Tuesday.
  • Scattered showers and storms will show up as well.
  • A potent storm system moves from the Plains States to the Great Lakes from Tuesday into Wednesday.
  • This brings the threat for strong to severe storms across the state Tuesday evening into early Wednesday.
  • The greatest severe threat continues to be in the west and south as a low-topped squall line moves through.
  • Damaging wind is by far and away the main threat.
  • There’s the chance for a second round of strong or locally severe storms Wednesday afternoon in the east.
  • Winds are a MAJOR player with this storm system. Gusts of 50mph to 60mph will be possible Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
  • Cold air crashes in behind the departing low late Wednesday into Thursday.
  • Light snow and snow showers show up during this time across central and eastern Kentucky.
  • Some light accumulations show up as well.

The Storm Prediction Center is doing what we thought and bringing that Marginal Risk area farther east with each update…

The far east remains in the Severe Weather Outlook for Wednesday morning…

All of this is for a low-topped squall line of showers and thunderstorms racing through the state late Tuesday into the early morning hours of Wednesday. That will be followed by another line of showers and some thunder ahead of a major temp crash Wednesday afternoon. Light snow and snow showers kick in behind this.

The future radar from the Hi Res NAM shows all this…

A Wind Advisory is already out for much of Kentucky for the next few days as winds are a HUGE player…

That should be expanded to the rest of the state.

Gusts of 50mph to 60mph still look likely with the potential for higher gusts if thunderstorms can bring some of those higher winds aloft down to the surface…

Cold winds and a light snowfall will be likely late Wednesday to early Thursday.

The weekend system continues to be of interest to me as the GFS continues to consistently show the chance for an accumulating snow event…

The EURO wants no part of that, but the bias of the model in leaving too much energy behind may be at play…

That’s something to watch in the coming days.

Enjoy the rest of the day and take care.
