Good Wednesday, everyone. Rounds of showers and thunderstorms rumbled back into the bluegrass state Tuesday afternoon and these will become fairly widespread today. This takes place as a strong cold front blows into the region from the northwest.
The storms of today may produce a two-pronged attack. The first being the severe weather threat and the other coming in the form of flash flooding. I don’t need to tell you how wet the ground is and how much rain has fallen of late. But, this waterlogged ground means the torrential rains from thunderstorms can quickly cause flash flood problems. This really has my attention today into this evening.
The severe weather threat will mainly come in the form of high winds and hail. Storms will move through in clusters from the west and northwest. Here’s what you need to track the severe potential…
Showers and storms will slowly work out of town early Thursday as cooler and drier air moves in for the afternoon and into Friday.
That’s when we get into a lot of model disagreement. We typically see this when there is a lot going on and… there is a lot going on. We have the possibility of a big closed low pinwheeling across our part of the world this weekend and we have tropical system to watch. Chantal may head toward the southeastern part of the country in time.
The GFS has actually been trying to something quite anomalous in getting these two together this weekend…
That would bring a lot of rain our way if it verifies. In today’s weather world… no extreme solution can be ruled out.
Have a great Wednesday and take care.

My local mets on TV has ben touting a nice, dry weekend for several days now. They have yet to hint that we may get in on more rain…
Wow, if that tropical system merges over KY widespread flooding is going to hammer us, thanks for the heads up Chris!
Heat index in east Frankfort 103.7, ugly storms forming rapidly to the west of here! Stay safe folks this evening might get a little wild!
Wow, what an explosion of storms..
75 dewpoint and heat index close to 100, ugh. Heat-van Drago says “I must break you”. I’ve managed to forgo AC so far this year at the ole Berea mansion, but even I’m starting to tap out.
Come on front, you’ve got to move it move it!
Look out Fayette Co.! The storms are at the county line coming hard
Mr Blue Sky, this (click here) must be your song! 😛
Anyway, the line of t-storms near Lexington extends all the way down to just east of me here in Nashville, although Nashville itself basically missed out this time so it’s still hot and humid here.
A secondary line also extends across Bowling Green, with a Severe T-Storm Warning for Tennessee counties along I-65 just south of the KY line.
Glad to see some less humid air blowing in. My run this morning was almost intolerable! Dewpoint about 75; temp about 78-80 at 8:00 in the morning! It did officially hit 90 before the rain came in–3rd 90 degree day of the year.
