Good Thursday, everyone. Our first wave of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes winds down early this morning across the east and southeast, but we have a lot more left in the tank. Waves of severe storms will push across the region through the weekend as flooding rains become a major issue.

Several tornadoes hit the Bluegrass State Wednesday evening into early this morning. Showers and storms become more scattered early today before we fire up more severe storms this afternoon and evening with the best chance being across the southern half of the state…

There’s another tornado threat, especially across south central and southeastern Kentucky as supercell thunderstorms try to go up this afternoon…

The damaging wind threat continues…

Today’s storms may have more of a large hail signature with them…

Torrential rains will cause flooding and flash flooding issues to increase today.

The focus for severe storms will then shift to western and north central Kentucky on Friday…

Torrential rains will still impact the west and north with major flooding issues showing up.

Areas of the east and southeast will get in on a very steamy air mass Saturday. I could see highs making a run at 85-90 in a few spots and this will add fuel to the fire for what is likely to be a very active late afternoon and evening.

The Storm Prediction Center already has a Slight Risk out for Saturday…

Watch for parts of that to get upgraded as we get closer. I think this has the potential to bring more tornadoes and damaging winds into the state.

This will also bring another 1″-4″ of rain to most areas, creating life-threatening flooding.

I’ll update things later today and be back on WKYT-TV to walk you through whatever severe storms go up today. As always, I have you all set to track today’s severe storms and flooding rains…
