Good Wednesday, everyone. Scattered showers and storms have been common across the region over the past few days. This action will become a little more widespread today as we continue to ramp up our moisture supply. I do have some good news and it has nothing to do with car insurance. Our weekend weather is looking pretty darn good. π
The storms of today will be slow movers and can put down some torrential rains. A lot of lightning will also accompany these bad boys. Let’s track em…
Scattered showers and storms will continue into Thursday as temps return to the 80-85 degree range. Humidity levels will continue to make it feel a little warmer.
A cold front swings in here on Friday and will bring a band of showers and thunderstorms with it…
The timing of that front will be crucial to high school football games. Hopefully, we can get that front through here earlier in the day to clear things out by kickoff.
The weekend looks very nice with cooler and drier air working in. Low 80s and low humidity levels will combine with sunshine to make for an outstanding Saturday and Sunday. Lows will drop into the 50s.
You will hear a lot of talk about a plains heat wave bubbling up this weekend into next week. This will likely stay to our west and the heat may actually head overtop of us into the Great Lakes…
Can we squeeze a 90 out of that pattern? My August forecast said to watch the end of the month for a 90, so I wouldn’t mind one. I said ONE. π
The CFS continues to point toward the cooler than normal air returning in September…
Have a great day and take care.
Seems like there have been some odd roles of the dice the last 15 years or so regarding snowfall. In early January 2011, the Tennessee-Alabama border of all places got a dumping of about 17 inches snow (from a single storm). Huntsville had their biggest single-storm snowfall since the 1970s! Same storm that brought Atlanta to its knees.
Yet areas farther north seem to have had few if any big single snows in a while; more like a lot of little snows adding up in some years as pointed out yesterday.
The huge βtraceβ snow of 1998 in central KY being at least one exception.
But yes, there does seem to have been less severe cold since Jan 1994 (and Dec 1989, Jan 1985, etc). This article (click here) by NWS Jackson KY seems to support this. Will this winter finally break the trend? π
The great lakes and even Canada will be warmer than us and even from Florida to Texas. Looks like some VERY heavy rain is happening south of lex. Its been training over the same place for a while, TURN AROUND DON’T DROWN.
Just had a gust front in east Frankfort, lots of thunder and lightning and still no rain at all, seems like something from the fire zones out west, the rain dome lives over silver lake in east Frankfort??
Thunderstorm Verga maybe??
I give up on figuring snow out here and have empathy for those that have to try as a job requirement. ie mets.
